Radiator Question

I have a crack on top of my radiator. That seems like a common problem. I was thinking of purchasing and replacing the radiator myself. I really have never done more than minor repairs on cars, but just looking at it, it seems like a pretty straight forward thing. So my question is how difficult is it and is there anything I should be careful of before I dive in. Or... should I just buy the radiator and take it to a garage to have the work done?

Replacing the svx radiator is almost as simple as changing a tire.
No tricks.
4 bolts to mount the radiator top tabs, 4 more for the electric fans, the plugs for the electric fans, and the hoses for coolant and the tranny fluid.

Not sure what kind of fans you have but mine are only held in with 4 bolts total.

So no bolts holding it in on the bottom of the radiator? Just disconnect everything, remove it. Put the new one in, reconnect the hoses, and fans and fill it with coolant. Check for leaks. That about it? I think I can handle that. -Thanks.

I think that Huck or Beav mentioned in another thread that the SVX motor tends to trap air bubbles in the coolant passages when refilling a drained engine. Supposedly the trick is to fill the radiator while the car is on an incline facing up the incline and then let the water circulate while on the incline.

I still claim that I have had my rad out on several occasions and never had an issue with air lock.
