Avoid louvered resonators if you are looking for maximum flow. Try to find one that uses rock wool or some other material that lasts longer than fiberglass.

Mychailo,

I'll take a look and see what they have on their shelves. How well do exhaust gases flow through a glasspack? If the shop has no other resonators, should I go with the glasspack or a straight-through muffler?

The pics are in!

I had 7 clamps on my exhaust removed (w/ the pipes welded) and a 2.5" I.D. Flowmaster glasspack installed. Took my exhaust guy about 45 minutes to do the job from start to finish and the finished product looks great!!!

As I arrived at 5:10pm, his boss had gone home so he let me take a few pics as the installation was taking place...

The glasspack (had been on their shelf for a little while):

All done - glasspack is a dark grey color and sits about 12" behind my 2-into-1 cat:

Close-up of the glasspack, taken when I got home:

I love the new sound, all of my exhaust leaks are gone and my exhaust flow shouldn't be compromised in any way! Even though it was a 95 degree day here in C'ville, I drove home with my windows down rather than run the a/c. I can't wait to get to the track on the 25th - however, these hot summer temps won't help much...

Chike,

That really is a sweet looking system. I was considering modifying mine as well, since the flanges at the main cat are disintegrating and starting to leak.

This question is for you (and Tom and for anyone else to give their opinion on)

What could I expect if I did the exact same setup as yours (remove the pre-cats and run the pipes into the magnaflow high-flow cat.

THEN

Run a short length of 2.5" pipe out of the cat into a Magnaflow resonator (see attachment) which would replace the stock SVX resonator. From there, continue back to the stock muffler and tips. Any forseeable problems or undesirable exhaust notes? Are Dayle's resonators different from these?

John,
You've just described my exhaust system. Check my locker for picks. I think you'll like it. Slightly throatier than stock when you get into it. You won't hear a difference from stock at idle when you're in the car.

John,

I'd agree with Bill. The sound should be throatier when you roll onto the throttle but not much louder than stock. If you can make the June 25th meet in Hagerstown at Maxon Dixon, you'll be able to hear my exhaust in person and possibly Bill's (if he comes by after his AutoX event that morning).

Nope, I can honestly say that I haven't. I actually have more ground clearance now than I did when I had the stock heat shields in place. Svxfiles just did an amazing installation - even my exhaust guy praised his clean work!

-Chike

P.S. I'll be finishing up my exhaust system this weekend by applying this high-temp thermal coating paint from the Eastwood Co from the headers back to my 2-into-1 cat:

-Chike
Chike, I had no resonation without it or with it. My complaint is that it dulled the sound down too much and lost it's hotrod edge. A glasspack installed forwards or reversed should not effect flow in any way as they are nothing but a straight, baffleless tube inside a larger tube. The inner tube has tiny "louvers" that capture the flow on the pipe walls and allow some sound to enter the outer chamber to muffle the sound slightly. They say that if you reverse it so the louvers do not catch the exaust you will not see a reduction in sound emissions. From my recent experience this is not the case.

I just wanted to provide input on going either way since I have experienced both and much prefer it without a glasspack. I never noticed any resonation issue in my exaust either way. It still sounds nastier than the stock SVX but not at all like a muscle car like it did.

Johnny

Agreed. That's probably how mine sounds right now i.e. nastier than stock. However, w/o the glasspack, I had a ton of resonance and nasty sounds at weird rpms...

Now it's much quieter, but has a mean burble and growl to it.
