Olds, really? Oh, well, I was close. When was that, late 70s?

Imagine a Saab loyalist filing suit against GM after buying a Saabaru and discovering its true heritage.

You're pretty sharp Darrell. It was in 1979 when an attorney bought an Oldsmobile Toronado with the 350ci V-8. He started having engine problems and took it to the dealer. The service manager told him he would call Chevy and try and gets some parts when the owner said it's an Olds, not a Chevy. The manage told him it's a Chevy motor, not the Olds 350. He documented everything and filed suit. In 1981 GM settled and offered money back to all affected owners or you could get an extended warranty on the motor. GM also had to put out a disclaimer that the different divisions were sharing motors.

Yeah i totally agreee..... it seems tht we cant rely on cars name stickers in future. See in general if someone likes one brand and hates another and if the later markets the earlier one by badgin its name on it, we can assume the feelings of tht guy over tht.

I am not gettin where and how this automobile market is goin to be in future.

Why dont subaru alone launch in India, whereas VW(recently) and Volvo(off course not in cars section but in heavy vehicles section, but they have the possibility to release their cars at anytime) are able to launch on their own?

This is how people of India thinks. This is a review of forester from the site www.indiacar.com

"A Thrown model from Subaru now manufactured by GM for India.I don't understand why GM started to market it in India.May be lack of awareness of people here. Its price is incredibly high.IS IT WORTH IT???.Even if GM offers this car for half of its current price i won't buy it & I won't buy any other overseas flop model." -- By Rahul

hmmmmmm ....

Pavan it's simple. Gm, i.e. Chevy, has an established dealer network in India. Selling a quality small SUV like the Forester does 2 things. Establishes better product, and alows Subaru into a market without the huge upfront capital of having to build an entire network for sales and service. For Subaru, it's a win-win.

P.S. It's also how Mitsubishi entered the U.S. market, by importing them as Dodge and Plymouth Colts throughout the 80's.

On GM site they mentioned Fuji/Subaru and 3 other companies as GM network. So, i think SUBARU is just a company which is iin its network, so tht it can also market its products where GM markets. But changing the badge is bad though. Thinking on these lines, i am little bit relaxed.
