steering belt tensioner

hey guys,

my power steering belt was squeeking alittle while back so i tightened it down with the tensioner, but its only been a few weeks and it was loose again today. Even when i tightened it back up the screw still looked loose, any ideas as to what to do?

is it an older belt? if so, i would suggest replacing it.

or:
i put on new dayco belts and they seem almost like they're shaving themselves to death and need endless tightening. did the same on my friends car as well (they seem to be too thick).

Also make sure you're unlocking the pulley before tightening and locking the pulley in place after tightening it.

to loosen/adjust the p/s belt, you must loosen the nut on the tensioner pulley then tighten the tensioner bolt. otherwise you aren't adjusting anything. in turn, you have to be sure to tighten the pulley nut when you're done adjusting it.
