Red face My car got hit today.

Well after school, i was on my way down to work, (Les Swab) and i was slowing down for a stop light, and all of a sudden woman did a U turn going the opisite direction, right into the side of my car driver side fender/wheel. I have to admit that the damage that happend to the body was very minimal, mainley becasue the wheel took the hit with the bumper scraping up and denting up the fender and bunper cover. The car is still driveable, but the car now pulls, and the sterring wheel is about 20 deggres off center to the right. The damge to her car, a 90 chevey caviler was pretty much nothing but paint, that came off her bumper, since she kind of T boned me. The accident probley happend at about 5-10 MPH. Luckley i saw her start her U turn off death, and started to turn to the right alitlte so that hopefulley reduiced the damage done. She addmited responsibility, to the cops over the phone since they couldent come down( I couldent find a wittness), but she dosent have insurance, but luckley I have uninsured on it, with only a $100 ductable. I Checked out the damge to the suspension at work for a minute but i really couldent find any, maybe, just maybe the front control arm got curled down a little, but thats it hopefulley.

Sorry to hear it, man. Hope it works out well. The only thing worse than idiot drivers are idiot drivers with no insurance...

I always thought if you just leave a note then they can say you left the scene of an accident and get into some deep **** for that.

either way it sucks when people don't leave notes.. all the body damage to my car is from getting hit in parking lots (2 different times) or from my dad ("what are rear view mirrors for anyway?"), so insurance is pointless.. especially with my "money saving" deductable because i don't think i'll get in an accident where i am at fault... hey i was right about not being at fault anyway..

Put it up on the alinement rack today and it looks like my control arm is bent ever so slightley, my car now has about -2 deggres of camber in the front drivers side. Hopefluley a control arm will take care of it.

Sorry to hear about your accident. But, I cannot believe the cops let her get away without having any insurance !!! I know that Washington has very high rates, but still. If yer gonna drive on the streets, you have to be responsible. As for uninsured motorist insurance, that is a ripoff. It has nothing to do with the other guy in an at fault accident on their side. Your insurance will cover the damage from your own comp and collision. Uninsured Motorist Insurance is: "The portion of car insurance that compensates you for any injuries resulting from an accident with an uninsured motorist or a hit-and-run driver. Damage to your vehicle in such a situation is compensated by the collision coverage portion of your car insurance." However if you are injured and have some sort of PIP, then your PIP will kick in first, then your personal insurance (as I recall) and then uninsured motorist. Basically UM only kicks in after all of your other injury insurance has been exhausted. If you do not have comp and collision, you have to pay for your own repairs, though you could sue to get back your damages.

Wouldn't it be great to be extremely wealthy? The wealthy don't buy insurance. They keep a hundred thousand in a separate account that draws interest, and register that account with the DMV. They have an "insurance card" but the DMV issued it.

As the vast majority does, most of us have full coverage...But wouldn't it be nice to do the above? It's not like we don't cringe at the thought of using car insurance, and heck... the insurance companies total out our cars at the site of a waterspot.

Seems like I remember that sort of thing, isn't it a bond of some sort also? People who have exotics just post a bond rather than have insurance, either because buying insurance is out of line with the potential payout or they cannot get it anyway. As an insurer I don't think I'd want to be on the hook for a busted 360 Modena Spyder and the liability.

Yeah.. I think it is an actual bond of sorts. Something tells me I'll never find out with first hand experience. I couldn't even imagine the price of full coverage on a vehicle that costs as much as my house! I've seen a Modena running around out here. That must be one rich guy to drive that thing around town like it's a Chrysler Lebaron or something. A door ding would probably cause me to have a stroke on the spot.

Yeah. That happened to me.

Yeah, a woman hit my altima and trying to run away at the parking lot. I caught her. She gave me her false phone number and trying to give me the wrong insurance number(well, I caught her on this). OK, I contacted her insurance information, two weeks later, her insurance company mailed me a letter saying her car was not insured.....they're not responsible on that (sigh)
Where the heck can I get her?

She is bad... Can I report to police? Would it help pay for the damage
on my bumper? (sigh)

In the state of Nevada, they would string her up. Getting hit with a no insurance marker carries about the same weight as a DUI in Vegas, and just as costly. By law, the insurance company has to notify the DMV if insurance is dropped. We have to personally go and turn in our tags prior to dropping insurance or we are fined... They are that strict. I would personally persue, if only on the principal she's making insurance costs higher for the rest of us.

Some states require that you call the cops no matter how much damage is done, some if a certain minimum is hit, though how we are supposed to know how much something will cost to fix is beyond me. You may be like me, I am a softy and if someone ever hit me, I'd probably try to resolve it like an adult, however in this day and age covering one's butt seems to be the smart way to deal with things. It's not about being nice, it's business. The sad fact is that people will squirm out of having to accept responsibility for their actions. Had you called the cops, they would have busted her for not having insurance, causing the accident and leaving the scene. Your insurance company would have a record as well as any other potential insuror for the other party. Now if you don't report the accident and you have comp and collision, then you are gonna be on the hook for the whole bill. On top of it, if you have Allstate and you tell them you had an accident and even if they don't pay out, they will still hold it against you, I learned that one the hard way. The worst case scenario is if the other driver gets an attorney and tries to sue YOU !!! CYA is all I can suggest.

I don't think they're are that strict here in the state of WV.

She hit my bumper(my altima not my SVX) at the Wal-mart's parking
while I was in my car. She was trying to run away but I stopped her.
I still remember her plate. If she was trying to be nice, and, I might
forgive or whatever.....but she's lying to me with an invalid phone number
and trying to cheat me on a wrong policy#. I caught her copied the wrong
policy#. It's kind of mad that I was wasting my time to call and talk to
the agent and turned out she'd an invalid policy.

I could have gone to the police and wasting my time to them and
explain what happened. But some cops will explain they don't really
care for that since if you're hit at the private parking lot.

I don't really like StateFarm. I don't think they'd a really good deal
to me. If it's not your fault, if somebody hit you and you claimed
it, they will put it on your driving record too............................
I don't have full comp and collison.

Yeah, CYA........ I hope she'll get paid fairly one day for what she's
done...........
