alternator noise

I just replaced my failing alternator with one that puts out 5 more amps than stock. After I put it in, it now makes the worst high sqeeling noise i have ever heard. Anyone have any idea what that sound could be? I don't think it's the belt. It feels pretty tight.

You'd better hope it's the belt. Cuz, if'n it ain't, it's a bearing and you'll be taking it back very soon.

You might use a "stethoscope" to isolate the location of the squeal. Personally, I use a length of garden hose as a listening device to isolate noises.

Is that the same hose you use to suck gas with? Have you ever washed that thing yet?

Nope, different hose. I got smart, when I was a teenager and started using CLEAR hose for "gas sucking," so you can see it coming and not wind up puking into the victims gas tank. The stethoscope hose is green with a white stripe.

Significant Technical Input
Why use a hose when a drain pan and an ice pick are so much easier?

Some of us don't want "vandalism" added to the "theft" charge.
