Horrible noise from new....
tranny and clutch i just installed into the svx. I just got the 5spd with ra gears installed and when i started it and let the clutch out it makes this horrible squeeking/scraping sound. IS there a specific way the clutch fork sits inside the tranny??? Is there something super simple that could just be missing here???Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Im not looking forward to tearing everything back apart again just to figure out what i screwed up...

Throwout bearing? I need to replace it on my rx-7. It makes a whiring noise when I take my foot off the clutch in neutral. Also one of my friends had one go out on him and it sounded like a tapping/knocking noise from the clutch area.

sounds like maybe u installed the throw out bearing backwards. anyway my buddy had his throw out go bad and it made some weird noises until he got a new one.

the way he keeps asking if there is a right way to intall the fork suggests that he may not even have a bearing in place! ugly picture that makes

No I installed the bearing into the flywheel. Still havent had time to tear it apart. As always its craziness around here...I didnt realize there was a right and wrong way to press the bearing in. I just hammered it into place from the back side of the flywheel...Should it have been pressed in from the front??? Would a bad bearing make a scraping scratching noise soon as the clutch is released???Thanks in advacne..

we are talking about the throw out bearing not the pilot bearing. The bearing you need to adress is the one on the end of the clutch fork. This ride against the clutch tabs. If it is in wrong or oyut of place, it will make screwy noises and burn out quickly, end result in screwing up ur clutch big time

ok..im following you now...Well then yes the throwout bearing (the large rotating metal piece correct?) was what was causing me grief getting the cluth fork aligned....Hmmm I take it once its apart i should see how the throwout bearing is supposed to be positioned???Thanks again for the help...

Alright well i got everything off and am looking at the back of the clutch...The throwout bearing or ( clutch release bearing- Pn#30502 from this page)
http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=100-1 ...is loose and moves front to back but spins very freely...Does this sound normal for it to have movement like this???Ill be waiting to here from you all before i try putting this back together again. Thanks in advance and hopefully you all will be able to set me straight... |

from searching real quick online, i came up with a question...Does the throwout bearing go onto the input shaft and then put onto the back of the clutch when you install the tranny or does it go on the back of the clutch and you install the tranny into it??? Also i just noticed that when i grab the clutch/flywheel and pull it, there is aproximately 1/4 in. of movement front to back, is this acceptable???

clutch disk in backwards?
Hmmm. those clutch springs make an awful racket as you grind on the flywheel when you put the clutch disk in backwards.
