Question How do I check the timing?

I know we have direct fire ignitions and I couldn't change the timing but how do I check it? On my civic I'd just hook my inductive timing light up to the #1 plug wire.
But how do I do that on my SVX? And since I'm on the topic, how are the cylinders numbered anyway?

Thanks!

timing

The timing can be checked with a subaru select monitor, the initial timing is 20 degrees BTDC, and runs up to 50 degrees BTDC.( As memory serves,) the passinger side front is # 1, the pass side middle is #3, the pass side rear is #3, the drivers front plug is #2, middle is #4, and the back drivers side plug is #6.

#1 is RH front and #6 is LH rear.
A conventional timing light will not work easily.
The best way would be to install a spark plug extension wire between the coil and the plug. Then it would work.
