Hurricane Update

So far today, I have talked to John (svxcess), ronmummert, and Larry III. Everyone is fine.

John and I at least are still without power (I'm milking the last few minutes of battery out of my laptop right now before it goes back to the car for a recharge). Ron is probably still out too.

John had a near miss on the SVX with one of the 5 trees that fell in his yard. My yard is a mess, but I'm much better off than some of my neighbors who lost quite a few sheds and fences. My biggest casualty was a brand new box of Breyers vanilla fudge twirl. And, I'm starting to get tired of warm beer

Back to reading for me, hope everyone else is fine.

-Mike

Hi Mike,

We down here have been feeling for all up there, having seen the devastation on TV. I sincerely hope Ron and others in the area are OK.

Well, we're fine down here in Southern Maryland....I've got one tree that has a very distinctive lean to it now, but the only things that actually fell were numerous dead limbs out of our trees. As luck would have it, my SVX is actually safely inside a detail shop elsewhere in the county getting its windows tinted....
Mike -- the power is on down here if you're looking for cold beers!

Well, Two more made it through, though it seems Isabel managed to take my battery down with her But atleast that's all I think it is, no flooding and we've even got power! Just outta curiosity, before I "coax" it on to the store for a New battery, does the power light blink when the battery dies? Got a jump start and finessed it to life a couple times afterwards and the light blinks everytime. Thanks for the help and good luck to everyone else.

good to go

Well my SVX and house servived. I almost los the car cover though. I had to take it off in the early morning. The SVX needs a bath now though. I got dirt and water spots all over her from the wind and rain. We had alot of water in the streets here. Thank goodness the driveway is the highest point of land on my property. It keeps my baby out pf the water and high & dry.

Warm beer!!

You have my deepest sympathies

Hang in there. There is a future, even if it appears that things couldn't be worse.

me and the svx survived, got power back late last night. but the driveway is blocked by a huge tree and i'm having trouble finding someone who will take it out as they're all busy due to the number of down trees. the subie got me out by driving through a narrow path make when public water was put in which will get me to the neighbor's driveway.

All is well at the Newman housewhole too. Really came through without a scratch. Lots of trash in the yard- I'll be raking forever - but no downed trees and the electricity has stayed on even if th4 cable went out for a few hours. We feel very blessed, especially compared to others with the flooding and downed trees. A neighbor across the street lost two trees and was smart enough to move his cars to the street BEFORE the storm hit. Lucky thing since one tree came down across his driveway!

Hope everyone else id doing okay.

Harry

Thumbs up

After hiding under the bed in total darkness Thursday night, I emerged with an empty box 'o courage Friday morning to gaze upon the mess. Fortunately, it was exactly that...a twig storm, but nothing as devastating as the less fortunate folks who had no homes from which to emerge. There is much sadness from the Outer Banks right through Virginia, Maryland & Pennsylvania, and the flooding was catastrophic for many in the Baltimore & Annapolis areas & furthur north along the Bay's tributaries. My power came back on this evening at 6:00 PM, allowing me to camp indoors for three days. It's estimated that hundreds of thousands are still in the dark, & may be so 'til the end of the week.
My hat's off to all the out-of-state (and our own) linemen who've decended upon the chaos & spend up to 16 hours a day doing extremely dangerous work. There were three bucket trucks from good 'ole Reading, PA in my neighborhood this morning.
It's good to hear from all you local SVX brethern, & find reports of mere aggrevation, not destruction. And....the Batmobile didn't even get damp!

Ron (anybody need 50 pounds of pine cones)?

I drove through Ellicott City on Thursday morning. The folks nearest to the Mighty Patapsco were boarding up and moving out. They really lucked out. Nary a drop on main street. I remember when Agnes flooded Main street almost all the way to Columbia Pike.

I have seen crews from Missouri, Florida, New York, and West Virginia.

My electric came back on Saturday.

I drank all of my warm beer to keep it from spoiling!

Ron ,

Glad to see you came thru A-OK.
I tried to call you but got no answer.
I did contact Mike. He was nestled up with a book and a bottle.

We lost power for about 14 hrs.
I had to finish all the ice cubes before they melted and diluted the scotch. Other than that we are fine.
My next door neighbor had a tree come down in his back yard. He was real lucky. It missed his deck & house by about 4 feet.

Like everyone else we also have tons of leaves & twigs to clean up.

My internet provider at home (Att.net) seems to be out. So I'm signing off to catch up on all the messages.

Thanks for checking up on us, Larry. Next answering machine I get will be a "wind-up" one. Power out here for 3 days. Now go see my latest "whine" in the Not Exactly SVX forum.
