Jack and Jill...

I was attempting to check out my brakes to see if I could stop the squeaking and well, the jack slipped. No damage to the car because the jack ended up bending slowly and letting it down nice and easy (even if it was on the rotor). So anyway, my jack from my truck is now semi-twisted and I would not feel safe using it. I checked subaruparts, $115 for the jack! Is there any jack that will fit in the same spot? If not I'll probably just get a little one from Wal-Mart (comes in a case about the size of the glovebox).

I can't help with your questions but the same thing happened to me. No I've got a twisted jack that's probably freakin useless. Perhaps try searching for a used one. I dunno. You might be able to secure an after market jack in the spot in your trunk, but I doubt it will fit perfectly. To me, that's better than spending $115 on a subaru jact, that in my opinion, sucks.

I'd recommend, while you're at Wal-Mart, that you get yourself a floor jack and a couple of stands. I think $50 will get you a set that'll see you through occasional use.

Doing any sort of work on your car, using the jack that comes with the car, is a no-no in my book. It's dangerous. If you have to use the car's tire-changing jack, then at least use a jackstand instead of leaving the car on that jack.

By the way, I recommend putting the jackstands under the front and rear subframes. My stands are channel-shaped so I put blocks of wood in between the stands and the car.

Anyway, you can try getting a jack at a salvage yard.

At the very least, put your wheel under the car once you have it off. That's what I do when I don't have a real jack or stands available.

I have a floor jack

I already have a floor jack and jack stands and usually I do use them. For some reason I just didn't this time. I might be able to get another jack to fit if I drill a couple holes. I was just curious if anyone knew of any jacks in particular that would fit, I thought the Subaru one would only be like $30, boy was I surprised. Unfortunately most of the junkyards around here have not even heard of an SVX, so the chances of them having a jack from one is about equal to the chances of me bending the metal back to shape.

P.S. That wheel idea is a good idea, I'll keep it in mind if there's ever an emergency.

Same thing happened to me the first time I used mine, had I used the little wheel chocks that came with it, it would probably not have happened,(bet you weren't using them either )
, I took the jack apart and straightened it in the press break at work, and it works fine now.....as long as I scotch the wheels
I use a floor jack and jack stands, when I'm working on it at home

i got a floor jack (that has a big bolt that goes thru the lifting arm for extra security) and two jack stands at Walmart for like $50. i would only use that chintzy Subaru jack in an emergency. my grandfather had a jack give out on him, a second after he got out from under a car. don't mess around, get a good jack.

My SVX jack bent when I used it , so I use the jack from my old SAAB which is much heftier & fits. Once the car is up, I use jack stands.

You can never be too careful. My 70 Olds Toronado almost came down on me when the jack slipped. The cinder blocks caught it or I would now be wearing a Toronado on my chest. (Might be an improvement).
