Pulling and vibration

Just picked up a '92 Silver with 116,000 miles.

Strong engine and strong on shifting. But.....there is a horrid pull to the right at about 45 mph, followed by a vibration.

I intend on having my Suby mechanic look at it next week, just thought I could get some ideas on what he should look for.

My Legacy Turbo quit on me a few weeks ago. He guessed it was the timing belt. It was....only to find out the ADJUSTER TOOL was still attached to the belt from the last change out. I've been driving it almost a year now.

Luckily it didn't do anything to the motor and I got away for under $225.00

Looking forward to getting the new SVX fixed and on the road. Boy oh boy do I miss not driving one.

Thanks!

Significant Technical Input
Take a good look at the tires. You may have a tire beginning to separate and cause the pull and/or vibration. It may also be more than one tire.

I saw the post title, then, I saw that the last post was written by Todd. Then, my immediate thought was, "Well, that thread's gone to hell." I WAS RIGHT!

Hey, hey, guys - Why is it everytime the subject gets just a bit out of the box, I'm the prime suspect for taking things down to the next level? As a member of refined culture & impeccable tastes I object to the constant besmirching of my reputation. Should this line of innuendo continue, I shall be forced to pull up my pants & leave the party.

So there.

Ron (maddenly vibrating).

Shoot me! I'm a Ronette.

Hey Ron,

I'm with you on this.

I just dropped in to see if the vibration was electrical or what, sho' enuff these guys are desmitching your reppitation.

Someday, at the mileage, you may have loose track rod ends or loose ball joint, possibly on the right side. Get the tracking checked, 4wheel laser.

Also, you may have a bent rim on the inside of the right wheel, check it while up and under.

Joe

Oommigosh, what have I said??

Yeah Ron usually it's about getting into the box or staying in the box or looking for the box or making jokes about the box or wanting a box or finding a box.

After looking at the results of my issue, I may have an educated guess at the problem.

I found that a bad CV joint(or 2) on my right from Axle was actually cause both a vibration and minor pulling to the right.

But, RF bearings, RF drive axle CV's could cause your issue.

It makes sence that you check the free wheeling of the front right wheel compared to the left, But check the Tire balance first.

Do you feel the vibration in the steering wheel, or the whole car?
If feel the vibration in the steering wheel, then lower ball joint, strutt, and control arm ball joint could also be a factor, if any of these are bad, it will cause pulling.
The key is whether the steering wheel shakes.

proof: my FR drive axle had 2 bad CV's, the right front wheel did not spin nearly as freely as the left. With the drive axle removed, it was clearly bad(both CV's)
Note: I haven't taken apart the Axle yet, so I'm not even sure if the inner joint is a real CV type, but you get the idea.

PS. the vibration was there but a mechanic could not diagnos the issue until it became more extreme. A back CV joint or 2 does not always cause the steering wheel to shake.

PPS. Hope for a wheel balance issue.

Leave me out of this one. If you must talk boxes, contact our Canadian or UK brethern. It seems they devote every December 26th to the subject.

Ron (sparring, but not boxing)

Box on Ron.

Yes we have that box too but also down this way there is a far more interesting box and or boxes which you Ron would surely appreciate i.e. a very interesting and delightful component indeed.

Sorry classified stuff and the low down, is not for down loading, from down under, as instructed down below my signature but if you PM me down here I could give you the fare dinkum down under oil -- dinkum, no sweat and piss easy ! Meantime I too will box on.
