What is this device under the intake?
I am removing all the emissions control devices from my H6 that is going in my 91 wagon and found this guy under the intake. I don't know what it is as it looks like an IAC by the way its plumbed but the IAC is on the throttle body. I am just wondering its function so I know if I can remove it. I don't see any wiring for it on my engine control diagrams. Also I don't want to hear any "why are you removing stuff its there for a reason and leave it" I hate emissions equipment and seeing as I am doing this as a swap with a huge harness merge I am not going to also wire all the emissions stuff back in so its gone.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
Those pipes make me think it's something part of the PCV system, which is something I would keep (even though it's emissions related).

Re: What is this device under the intake?
Subaru says it's the "Auxiliary Air Valve", for what that's worth.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
Ok auxiliary air valve is going to be gone. as for the PCV I am going to keep that stuff as its keeps the seals from blowing out just a little bit longer. LOL I am actually looking at running an electric air pump as a vacuum pump to the breathers so I don't have to pull the oily air into my intake. that or plumb in a vacuum port in the exhaust.
Thanks so much for the help guys, Brad

Re: What is this device under the intake?
Somebody, correct me if I'm wrong... That piece might be influential to your cold idle.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
From the FSM: Aux. air valve supplies by-pass air only when engine is cool. Also from the FSM: More than half the air for idling is supplied by the bypass valve. That's under the TB.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
Yes you do need that one. It does the 'cold start fast idle'.
Harvey.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
No, you are not wrong. I think mine got gunked up when my PCV was stuck and it does cause a bouncy idle when cold.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
The one on my SVX must stick because it sometimes stays at high idle like 3 grand till i shut if off and back on. So your saying I need it just for cold idle right? I will have to look at the ECU pin out again to see if they list it to hook it up.

Re: What is this device under the intake?
So the 91 wagon I am putting the engine in would not have provisions for that off the old engine either. I am going to unplug the one that is on my SVX and see how it starts tomorrow. If I have to start it like I do my old dodge with the throttle open just a bit thats fine by me. LOL My end goal with this wagon is a rock crawler/mudding car. I am hoping with extensive fender cutting and smashing i can fit 28"
