Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and pay the cost.
Sometimes, even just doing a diagnosis costs money.

A litre of oil or so is a cheap way to be confident that you're fixing the right thing.

Drain the oil into a clean container and check if the sump plug is magnetized. See what you find.
If there is nothing but dust then you should be right.
If there are shards of metal then it may or may not be the tranny making the noise.
If you find chunks... probably best to remedy that and see if the noise stops.

Hey quick question for the OP..... did you check your tranny fluid level while it was running or off ??? If you did it while it was off it will read way higher than actual. Just making sure before you worry about it.
