Exclamation What is this?????

I was installing new headlight bulbs and I found this thing laying next to the battery, not attached to anything, just laying there. I was like "hmmm....I wonder why that's there" so I went to see what it did and the thing pulled right out. I have a couple of questions, 1. WHAT IS IT?, 2. where does it go?, 3. what does it do? I dunno if it's important or what but it definately didnt belong where it was.

That is your battery hold-down bracket. The two long thingies fit into the slots on either side of your battery and tighten down with the flange nuts.

Here's a photo of what it looks like when it's installed (piece is circled in red).

Talking thanks

Thanks aredub, unfortunately I think one of the hooks is lost so I can't put it back on. It's been lying down there since I bought the car almost 3 months ago, I'm surprised I just noticed it today.

The bracket is important. It is not good to have the battery bouncing up hitting the hood.

You can usually find hooks at any Autozone, Advance Auto or similar store.
