I had both 4.11's and 4.44's in my former SVX and later were by far the best gears for the car. My gas consumption didn't change as it's related to throttle position - not rpms. I was getting ~23mpg in mixed city & highway. As the engine is turning higher rpms on the highway, there's a slight increase in noise in the cabin area, but nothing that was annoying - my summer tires running over the pavement were actually louder. If I own another SVX and wanted to keep it an automatic, I would not hesitate to upgrade it to 4.44's!

I suspect you are like me. If you are, pulling power between 70 and 100 or 80 and 110 will be your god. Joe

Looks like you and Tom got another convert! Thanks, Joe [BTW, if you drive your car at 70, and manually change between 4 and 3, there is a hell of a difference in revs. I'm willing to bet that if measured on a dB meter the sound pressure levels hardly rise at all. Engine noise is well insulated from the cabin.]
