Crank Angle Sensor Replacement

I had a code 11 for the crank angle sensor and bought a new one. Are they're instructions anywhere on here or can someone give me instructions on how to replace this. I have to do an o2 sensor code 37 which I found instructions for as well. Thanks.

Mike

if i am not mistaken, that would be the sensor on the driver side cam gear area, right next to the battery. it's pretty straight forward. i dont remember if it was a 10mm or 12mm. but there are two bolts to take out and the sensor itself comes right off. i think i had to wiggle it a bit - this was when the engine was pulled out of the car so it was a lot easier for me to take it off. and of course you would have to unplug it first.

i hope this info was for the sensor you were talking about.

Crank angle are at the very top of the engine, at the front near the alternator. The cam sensor is at the front, driver's side of the engine. All are very easy to replace.

Before you replace it, check to see if it is merely dirty. I found mine covered with gunk recently.

There are actually 2 crank angle sensors on the SVX, both are right under the alternator, just remove the alternator, and they are super easy to get to.

The one on the left side head (by the oil fill) is the Cam position Sensor.

O2 sensors are a little harder to get to as you have to get under the car, they are pretty easy other than the clips are difficult to unfasten from the main harness, but unhook them first, then you can use a boxed end wrench to remove them.

Alternator Removal

I'm just removing the alternator and apparently made a mistake. Not sure how big. I was unloosening the small nut for the wire going to it and my socket wrench touched the top of the engine block. They're was a spark and now when I opened my car door the interior lights don't come on. Could this just be a blown fuse or worse. I'm just finishing the angle sensor replacement. Thanks.

Probably. When your wrench touched the top of the engine block you shorted the battery to ground.

Shorted

Can I just recharge the battery? They're is a fuse that leads off the positive side of the battery but the filament thru the plastic covering looks intact. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm going to test the battery with my voltmeter right now.

Mike,
I take it the car won't start now? Unless you left the wrench "grounded" for a while, you should be okay. Worst case would be that you blew the fusible link, which you'd have to replace before doing anything else.
-Bill
p.s. check all of the fuses - inside the car and in the engine bay

Problem Fixed

Thanks for all the replies on this. I removed the alternator and they're was two sensors directly under it. Looking at the engine the one on the left matched my new crank sensor. I took the one out on the right first and it was similar but had a different angle to it. Also I fried my fusible link by not disconnecting my battery first I got a usable one from an auto parts store and soldered the old plugin clips to it and got it going again. With the new crank sensor my car seems to run better. It seems to idle higher now just warming the engine up and waiting at lights etc... Thanks again.

Mike
