I guess then I should use a quart of paint remover, use some sand paper and WD40 and then cover it up with touch up paint. Is paint remover strong enough to remove applied touch up, even if its probably waxed over?

Yeah, I posted some pics when it first started becoming noticeable around 00-01 I think. I did wash my SVX on a somewhat infrequent basis, but I doubt it would've made things any better, as it started to rust from the inside out. I don't have any final pics currently, as it was dark by the time I picked it up and I haven't taken any shots of the SVX since. I'll try to get an "after" shot tomorrow if the sun is out.

Here it is. The rust area was repaired and the spoiler was repainted as well during the same job. The paints were ordered from the paint code, but as usual the pearl white was very hard to match perfectly. I had the same problem when the door was repainted by the dealer at a much higher cost thankfully, to the insurance company. The spoiler turned out excellent though. I don't have any before pictures of it, but the entire top surface had peeled. I'm sure other black top owners here know what I'm talking about.

Thanks, Kuoh. It looks not bad, though.
Do you think this is a DIY thing? My yellow one starts getting the rust spot........I have to do something don't want it become so scary.... Mind sharing.....what was the cost and time to fix it? How many miles is on your pearly? Still looking good.

I wouldn't know if it's really a DIY thing unless you have some experience. I didn't do the job, but had a friend who was in the business. The total was $350 for everything, which was good enough for me, especially since it only took one afternoon. The last time I asked around, the spoiler alone would've cost me around $200+ at a shop.
I don't recall the exact mileage, but I'm pretty sure it's around the 250k+ mark and every side of the car has the scars to prove it. The color does help to mask them from a distance and in pictures, but it still needs a lot of work both inside and out. KuoH Last edited by kuoh; 07-20-2005 at 09:57 PM. |
