Grinding from the Tranny

I have had a grinding noise for my tranny and yes its the tranny put it up on the lift and hit the gas it made this grinding noise. Anyone else had this problem. Do I need a whole new tranny or what? If I do I would like to attempt the 5 speed swap. It is only when I hit the gas and only in drive gears. Axles are new all fluid is new and full.

Need more info. Does it make the noise in all the forward gears? Does it change when you go on and off the throttle? Did it start all of a sudden, or has it been getting worse over time?

Harvey.

Can't be sure, could be the front diff. You could drain the front diff to see if there are any chips of metal there. I would get somebody to listern to it, before it gets worse.

that would be my guess too, the front diff
and if thats the case, Id say you are on borrowed
time. If you do tight U turns in a parking lot
and it sounds worse, thats not good either.

As everyone else says, the description sounds just like when my front diff went bad...horrible grinding sound, but goes away when accelerating, comes back when you let off the gas. If this turns out to be the problem, its not really that expensive a part...all things being relative, since I picked up a pristine used diff for $80 shipped!
