running the numbers

I took off to Atlanta in the SVX yesterday for the first time in recent months and was pleasantly surprised by the fuel mileage. Round-trip calculations...

Miles Driven: 265.1
Elapsed Time: 4 hrs., 15 mins.
Average Speed: 62.33 mph
Fuel Consumed: 9.65 gals.
Miles Per Gallon: 27.47

Conditions
- Overcast with occasional drizzle, temperature range 50 to 75, rolling terrain
- 200lb. driver, no passenger, approx. 100lb. gear in the trunk
- Cruise control settings 65 to 80 mph
- Top speed (brief stretches): 85 to 90 mph
- Climate control on AUTO (A/C running) for approx. 30 mins. of trip
- Roadways: Approx. 85% Interstate or divided highway, 15% stop & go boulevards/suburban streets

Re: running the numbers

That's amazing gas mileage and quite timely too due to these outrageous prices!

one year later...

I went to visit my family yesterday morning in the SVX and thought it would be interesting to compare my fuel economy to what I posted in this old thread, as the route was the same.

Having left home with a full tank, I stopped to top-off at 117.5 miles and added 4.36 gallons, just a tad past the click-off to bring the total to $10 even. That works out to 26.94 MPG. Traffic was very light and I saw not a single law enforcement vehicle, so my right foot was definitely a bit heavier than usual on this run.

It seemed in recent weeks that my fuel economy had worsened, but I suppose that's a psychological function of seeing the price has increased by a dime per gallon at every fuel stop.

I've been suprised as well

On my 6 hr. trips out to Lubbock, I've been getting just under 30 mpg, which is a whole lot better than the usual ~18 I get around town.

Yeah, the car's fine. It's my wallet's mileage that's getting worse by the day.
