A Better motor oil?

I was wandering through my local car shop the other day when I noticed Mobil 1 makes a "Porche and Mercedes approved" Performance Synthetic oil which is rated 0w40, and supposedly is slated towards european cars which run hot etc etc....

Can anyone tell me why I wouldn't wanna try that out? As it is I believe the H-6 is a hot running motor, and as it has the same basic design as a porsche motor, wouldn't this oil be well suited to it's design?

Any professional opinions?

Here's a decidedly unprofessional, thoroughly cynical opinion:

Marketing.

I think that would be a good oil 0-40W for the SVX. Thinner in the cold weather and thicker in the hot weather. However, you may want to check on that. 0-40W may still be pretty thick in the winter at 20F.

That's a pretty big stretch. Yes, Porsche motors and the EG33 are flat sixes - but the similarity ends there. They are not the 'same basic design' beyond cylinder orientation.

It was the same price as the standard synthetic motor oil as far as I can tell....? I didn't check. Oh well.

I only meant porsche-suby wherein that it was both horzonal six and confusing as hell.

How's this.... Would it do any harm??

BTW- I actually saw it at a Walmart.
