AC belt loose
Fellers,
I recently replaced the ac belt on our '92 SVX and the belt is squealing every time I start the car. I loosened the two bolts in the front of the compressor and retightened them but it still squeals. Is there a tensioning bolt that i am not doing correctly? My neighbors would appreicate your help. Tdog |

belt squeal
Are you sure it's not the alternator power steering belt? If you have your A/C off when you start it, and it still squeals, it could be the other belt.
Anyway, the A/C belt is tighened with an idler pulley directly below the compressor. You must loosen the 12mm nut at the center of that pulley, and loosen the 12mm jam nut the adjuster arm pivots on, 2.5 inches above and towards your left. Closer in to the engine is the adjustment 17mm nut, cast into the pivot arm. Turn that nut counter clockwise to tighten the belt, then lock down the pulley nut, lastly lock tight the pivot nut. |

it appears that both nuts just tighten down and one is not a tensioner. there is a lower nut in the swivel portion below the center nut but it doesn't help as a tensioner.
thanks tdog |
