moving drivers seat back

Fed guidelines not withstanding...has anyone unbolted the seat to get more leg room? Can't be that hard...just didn't want to find lines or wires when we bolt back another five or so inches....

How much room do you need?(!) I'm about 6' and mostly legs and I can' use the furthest adjustment on the driver's seat or I don't reach. The SVX has more room than most cars.

Are you over 6'5"?

I also wish the seat moved back about 1-2 more inces. I talked to some guys about doing just that and they said that it's not as easy as it looks. If I remember correctly (it was a couple of years ago), it was going to be about $500 to do it right. I figured I could live with they way it was for that kind of $$$.

If you're concerned about drilling new holes in the floorboards, why not work up a set of plates that would have studs for seat mounting further back, while the plates would actually bolt in where the seat did when it was in its stock location?

I remember a post from a couple years back where someone just altered something on the tracks and got an additional 2 or 3 inches I think. Nothing to do with the mounting bolts, it seemed really simple and easy. I'll try to do a search, it was by the Marine in L.A. who traded his SVX for a 5 series Beemer I think (can't remember his name for the life of me ).

Okay, I found it! Looks like with about 10 minutes time and the right tools (to pull the seat out, very easy IMO), you can gain 3 inches of travel and not compromise safety or construction.

BTW, our original Marine (retired, but I think it goes once a Marine, always a Marine) was Wayne. Cool guy.

Short?

Hey, not sure if its just me, but I drive a '96 SVX and I have
trouble getting comfortable in the drivers seat. I'm only 5'10"
and in order for me to not bang my knees on the steering
wheel column or hit my head on the ceiling, i have to slouch
forward in the seat about halfway accross the seat to be able
to see through the steering wheel to the gauges. It's starting
to tear up my lower back, and I'm not even old yet!

Does anyone else have that problem with seeing through the
steering wheel to the gauges? If I sit up straight, the top of
the wheel blocks any speeds past 55 MPH.

Thanks,
Ryan
