Newbie with questions! Wheels, exhaust, resistor
Hello one and all. I have owned my 96 polo green svx for almost 3 years and 30k miles, and love it. I have perused and enjoyed svx.net since before I bought my car, but did not get around to actually until a couple of days ago.
Now I have a couple of questions for the gallery: 1) Larger wheels. Those of you who have switched to 17s or 18s, did you really notice much of a handling difference? I have Yoko AVS dbs on my car, 16s and am debating changing wheels now. btw, the Yokos were quieter, but a bit disapointing in tread life, about 20k miles. The original Potenzas lasted 45k. 2) Same question for exhaust modifications--any real difference? 3) What do you think of this resistor mod on eBay?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2428040579 |

1 & 2: can't say, my car is stock in both these areas.
3. Almost pure BS. As I understand it, the SVX ECU controls max advance timing by sensing engine knock, not air temp. Fuel ratios also involve a reading from the O2 sensor, etc. Tampering with just one aspect of the system is not likely to yield positive results. All that said, I have not personally tested one. |

Rims
I got 18" rims on my car with Yoko ES100's the ride is a little harder and handling is better. Exhaust I got a stebro and can feel the difference Shift Resistor don't get one off ebay, buy the one from smallcar.com

Larger dia rims will improve cornering performance, but be prepared for an increase in interior noise from the reduced sizewall size. If you really want to get the most out of the car though, you've got to do some suspenion mods, namely stiffer springs/dampening and/or sway bars. Options are limited or nill though.
I've got a full Stebro system on my car including the "Euro Resonator" which replaces the third cat, and it has definitely improved the performance. The fun factor is much higher. As lee said, the ECU resistor thing is pure BS, at least for the SVX.

re: i have a set of yoko's
i have a set of yoko's but think that their grip is not that good. i hear the azenis are the way to go for grip. guess grip only matters if you have nice little spirited drives in the mountains. so depends on what you are looking for. someone told me bigger rims may not be the best way to go, but they like going off roading.
