I am so glad to hear that it wasn't any worse than that and you are ok. We don't need any more parts cars! Be careful. What a way to start out the new year.

Black Ice/Snow
Glad to hear you are ok as well Kelli. Very true, AWD won't do crap when you are moving a heavy car over ice.
I went to test out the SVX over wet roads and curves, I hope that there are places for you to test out the car's reaction to snow, ice, and water so you know how to control the vehicle. But remember never panic. People who drive 4WD SUV's are idiots. I think SUV's are great and all, but when you have a heavy and high vehicle, you can't corner like a SVX or any sports car. I've seen so many accidents from people who drives SUV's it not even funny. Also saw an idiot cut a corner like I did, I'd say that 2 of his outer wheels must have went up a little. Well take care! Harry Day 3 with a SVX and loving it. Took a few people out in the car and now they are addicted. I'm looking to test out other Subaru vehicles so any suggestions are welcome. I'm also still looking for a mechanic in the Atlanta area to tune and fix up all the little wear and tear items so I can be sure that if I go out of town it won't break down on me! |

Kelli,
Glad that you are still in one piece. Take care......... us old guys will soon need all the young pretty nurses there are. PS: Make sure your tires are in tip top shape for northwest NJ winters. Even AWD is not good with poor/worn tires. The most important part of a car is the ~16 square inches of rubber that connect it to the road.

Glad you are OK!!!
Kelli,
Sounds like you got quite a scare...happy that you are well, appears to have been a "diaper changer" if ever there was one!!! HeHe As an aside, just a couple of thoughts... Have not only the best tires you can buy but also the best for the conditions you drive in: my svx 18 inchers with hi-perf tires are summer only and my stock rims have pure snow tires.[not all season, REAL snow tires!!!] second, all of us should do, or have done some kind of hi perf driving school: if you do a little homework, they are very available if you look for them. I instruct at one in the spring for on track, high performance and Pro solo driving and I still find that many very experienced drivers are not NEARLY as competent as they think they are and day one on the track ALWAYS reaffirms it. In perspective, my son has pro raced karts for 8 years, 2 years in an F2000 and done a pro racing school and 1/2 of slush put his VR4 twin turbo with 95% tread summer tires into the back of a van at 20mph doing about $1000 worth of improvements to his car and $4000 to the rear of the other guy who happened to be illegally parked in the street at the time. Kristian is really good and very skilled and it didn't take much weather to spoil his day!!! Glad you're OK!!! Hotshoe aka Richard |

Glad you are ok Kelli,
..everyone be careful! Also if anyone cares.. Bridgestone RE910s are great, even on ice...I took the car on a solid 1/7" of ice in a parking lot and the car drove like a normal car up to about 35 and only felt weird if you did any sudden abrupt movements. Speed was limited because of the size of the lot, i will play on a larger one some time if it ever gets cold around here, final saw snow again. |

We had a lot of snow yesterday, so the Michigan people who save their really stupid driving behavior for the special occasions were out in force last night.
The freeway was covered in snow. I was in the left lane because I had just passed another car. An Expedition came flying up behind me. If I had not moved out of his way, there is simply no way he would have been able to avoid me by braking or swerving. The Justy has very good visibility, so believe me - his front right corner was mere feet from my left rear. 'I hope you flip into a median and I don't even feel bad saying it out loud.' Even worse than that, on a two-lane road covered in snow about ten minutes later. I'm happily staying on my side of the road when some massive car approached in the oncoming lane. As it neared me, it just started drifting over. I couldn't actually see the shoulder, but I'm pretty sure I was on it when he passed me, only a couple feet from my door. As I glanced in my rear view, I saw that he was totally in my lane. I kept glancing and it took an additional fifteen seconds before I saw his brake lights and he swerved into his own friggin' lane. So many people in this state are simply incapable of driving safely. It's maddening. I don't ever want my wife to drive on MI roads again. Sadly, that's not really practical. I'm glad to hear that you're okay, Kelli. Keep safe.

Glad you're OK, Kelli! Things like that sure can scare you but they certainly make you aware of how alive you are. I've had many scares like that in my other cars but the worst was when I was driving my Trooper across a long, ice covered freeway overpass in the left lane with a 4Runner on my right. His Toyota started going squirrely for no apparent reason and the next thing I knew there was his SUV doing kartwheels right outside my passenger window along side of me. It finally landed head first on the retaining wall and hesitated a second before it fell back onto the highway. If it fell the other way he would have dropped about 40 feet to the road below.
All it takes is one sudden change in acceleration or direction to through off a vehicles balance on ice. I never felt safer than I did in my Trooper but I know it had limitations as well. I'm just glad I never had to find them out the hard way. I look forward to learning how the SVX handles ice and snow.
