Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

changed the SVX oil this AM, ~3600 miles since the last oil change on 11-29-14
castrol full synthetic and a wix 51334

had her parked halfway out the garage to change oil, nose only was in garage.
-today is REALLY windy, 45mph gusts, sustained about 25mph….was just checking and topping off for correct dipstick reading, and kathuunk on the garage above…a smaller tree limb came off the tree. wow, that was close call no harm to the car

Then shuffled cars around so the SVX and RT4wd can be the easy cars out. Called and put insurance on the SVX, removed from the CRX

then took the SVX for grocery run, and gas fillup.
getting gas, the garbage can lid came flying off and hit the bumper. no damage.
Came home parked in garage.
waiting for the snow to come tomorrow.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

was going to back it out of garage and wash it the other day, battery was low. put the charger on it.
Today backed it out the garage and washed it. also did a battery disconnect dance quick, and now my fob is working again.
tomorrow I am going to be shuffling some more cars around in the garage so will see if the battery held the charge.
Had been 3 months or so since this SVX was last moved.
gotta remember to put the cover on it again this time to keep it from getting dusty.

I had a similar close call a couple of months ago. I went out in the morning and there were pieces of a 2 inch diameter branch off a Birch scattered around the car. The branch fell about 15 feet hit the hood and the windshield on impact. The hood got dented but was already mangled from hitting a deer and getting bonked by a golf ball while driving past the local course.
The lucky part was the end which hit the windshield broke the wiper blade and bent the wiper arm flat against the windshield. It absorbed the impact and the glass didn't brake. A broken windshield would have meant the end of the road for the '92.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

little update.
Decided to dig further into why the rear side windows have never worked. Took out the back seat, and both sides had connectors just laying on the floor. I had to pop off the side panel to get to the wiring for the switch, and after connecting them, both sides now roll up and down……not the only thing I have found disconnected on this car, ie, the rear trunk light was disconnected too but that was fixed my first couple days on the car.

Decided to replace the front diff gear oil so went to the store and purchased 2 jugs of 75w-90 fully synthetic gear oil. Let the old stuff drain for several hours and then i made a longer tube for my funnel and filled with new. Yes, I did this correctly, not my first Subie, and I do know the ATF is on the driver side and gear oil on the passenger side…….

Going to call and get some insurance on the SVX and also on my Honda RT4wD and will drive the SVX til the weather gets cold enough for the snow tires on my RT4WD…..then will only drive the SVX on the nice days going into winter. Once the salt flies, then the SVX will be covered and garaged.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

pinhole in the front right brake rubber hose.
have been topping off the fluid this week until I had the chance to look at where although the garage had signs of leaking under the front right tire..
Its the rubber hose.
ordered 2 on Rockauto today, should be here this week. Easy fix once the part is here.
still going to drive it to and from work until I get the part.
Already have the flared wrench borrowed to fit the line connection, and made sure I could get the connector loosened.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

front brake hoses arrived this afternoon. Already had the car on jackstands and wheel off.
Front right line replaced, and now I have a new spare for whenever the other side decides to go. New lines from rockauto, Centric brand, made in China, doh probably made of defective tire compound and poisons
-?
is there really only 1 single copper washer for the caliper? New part did not come with any and I only found one on the old one.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

well took he line loose and scraped and there she was, the second copper washer was stuck to the caliper. Put it back together and used the power seat and a board to bleed the line again.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

hand calculated fuel mileage right at 23.6 mpg on my last tank. About to turn 72k miles on the odo. Probably be parking it once the snow and salt appear…
got another compliment at work today. A few weeks ago someone was asking me about it at work too.

Re: soon to be back in a SVX again

Probably will be entertaining interested parties that woukld want to buy in the coming Spring once weather turns nice again. I think it has around 76k on it now.
I have about 4500 into it or somewhere around that.
Will be selling to pay my surgery bill for a hernia repair.

The car has no rust and underneath is really a beuaty
It is not perfect but a very good reliable car.

I will try to desrcibe the flaws:
front bumper still has some scrapes and imperfections.
Front hood never got a great coat of paint.
1small dent left front fender.
1 small dent on roof near sunroof
1 small dent on sunroof panel
AC stopped blowing cold, but it did work good when i got the car.

That is about it, car is stock
The new parts i installed were both rear wheel bearings and seals
front oem subaru SVX axle on left side
front exhaust pipes from header to the center cat
one new front brake hose
one new rear brake caliper ( i left the rotor as was, and it should get replaced)

Car needs to be seen in person, so if you are traveling thru Iowa, let me know and that can be arranged easily enough, I am right along I-80
