Awesome VIN Decoder (Please Pin)

Just came across this great website where you can put the vin of your car, search the illustrations for the part you need, and you will get the exact part number of your car.

It showed a lot about mine (i.e: exact manufacturing date), looked for the MAF and got me the exact unique one for my car (22680AA240 as opposed to the US version 22680AA200).

Please Admins pin this post, it is the best universal Alcyone/SVX parts search engine.

Nice find.

It looks like the link has your Vin. So you may want to change that if that type of thing concerns you?

Its ok, left it there for people to know where to write their VINs since the website is in Russian.

Re: Awesome VIN Decoder (Please Pin)

I tried to compile a VIN overview some time ago that should work with SVXs from most countries/regions. So far it worked with every VIN I threw at it, so hopefully it is somewhat decent.

Nice. Thanks Louis! Worked on my early 92 LS-L #100115..

The ‘wasted’ dummy digit #9 just seems weird though… Logic would say it’s a code for something, lol. Not a field for a random character generator (if it’s a dummy it could have just been the same value in all VINs. It sits in between the ‘type’ info and the “date” info… damn, what could it be?

Any idea how many of the 4WS models were made? Or 5MT versions?

Tom

Re: Awesome VIN Decoder (Please Pin)

Interesting mystery, I had to dig into it. Turns out it is a check digit use to ensure the VIN is valid. Basically a single character hash of the VIN, which should be 0-9 or X. If any number of letter on a VIN was entered incorrectly the 9th digit would help detected that.

You can test it yourself with this VIN check digit calculator:

There were zero 5MT made. Auto only.

Cool. So not a random wasted number - a check/hash digit.

Thanks!

That’s what I thought.

Then I see digits for both 2WD & AWD 5-speeds in the VIN Code. In two distinct digits. So the VIN coding was designed to handle two 5-speed SVX variants they never built.

Seems quite odd, so I asked… thanks for the confirmation!

Hello,

For JDM SVX, you can use SUBARU-EPC software to find parts from serial No.
Serial No. like CXD-xxxxxxx or CXW-xxxxxxx is used instead of VIN in Japan.

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...on/k1132252864

Everything is written in Japanese, but you can get the part number by selecting it from the picture.

Note: EPC require Internet Explorer and not work on Edge. You need to use windows 7, 8 or windows 10 without windows update. I am using windows 10 on virtual PC without internet connection to avoid update.
