rear light bar/center brake light

My center brake light does not work. Never has. Is the panel supposed to also be lit up when the head lights are on?

Is there a repair available? Or do I need a new rear/center brake light panel?

Re: rear light bar/center brake light

it's only a brake light. Not a tail light.

OK. Any input on repair options, or the best way to get one? Over $200 from Subaru parts.

Re: rear light bar/center brake light

Are we talking about the upper LED strip or the center section of the tail lights with the "SVX" script? Either way, test for power to the lights before going and buying parts. Are you getting a "Brake Lamp" or whatever it is light on the dash when you hit the brakes?

This is what your running/tail lights should look like:

And this is what the brake lights should look like: (Note that this is a JDM car. Yours will have the dimmer tail lights like my car above where his reverse lights are)

Re: rear light bar/center brake light

It's the thin LED strip. Seems pretty expensive for a brake light.

I am not getting a BRAKE light on dash.

Re: rear light bar/center brake light

Interesting... I'd test for power to that strip first before ordering parts. LED's are extremely reliable, so it might be an issue with power getting there. A broken wire in the trunk hinge for example.

Honestly I'm not even sure those are LEDs... I'm assuming they are, but given the age of the SVX they could be tiny bulbs. Either way, check for power.

Re: rear light bar/center brake light

Center LED's are brake lite only. Its either un plugged or a broken wire, should be an easy fix. One of the few things I have never seen fail on an svx.

A few of my LEDs in the bar have failed, but it hasn't affected the rest from lighting up.
