Help required for Sun Visor fix

I am looking to do the SVX Visor fix -

But here in New Zealand I cannot find the Hilman #235 insert.

Can someone post out to me about 12 of these things (as I suspect there may be other SVX owners here that would like to do this trick) - will use Paypal to pay for items & postage.

I have searched extensively [B]and cannot find that part number anywhere. Hillman still makes brass fasteners, but not with that part number. It could hve been discontinued or have a revised part number.

I sent them an email, asking what the specs were for that part, in hopes of finding something close. If we knew the size or the thread pitch, we could search for other manufacturers.

If someone here had that fastener (uninstalled) as a spare to sell you, it could probably be matched up., measurements would help.

Thanks for the update on this issue SVXCESS, since I am off to Australia in 2 weeks time, I will check out a couple of the larger stores there, but in the mean time - just go ahead & send me the parts as discussed in PM.


Another issue with Sun Visors - the wiring breaks where the pivot point is (stopping the light working) has anyone done a fix for that, since mine are going to be coming apart thought I could look at fixing this issue also.

Any thoughts ?

I didn't have much luck with this fix. The visor still sagged with the insert and where I sealed it up looked pretty bad. In fact I think it sagged worse after the "repair". I ended up purchasing a used visor to replace it, but for what it costs, it was worth a shot. Hopefully you will get better results.

Carefully unbolt the sun visors and pull the wires gently to get at the connectors. Sometimes the wires break up high, right at the pivot point of the sun visor arm. You may have enough slack to attach another length of wire across the break. It all depends upon how high the break is and how much extra slack you have. In my son's pearlie, they were easily seen and I was lucky to be able to repair them without taking anything off.

I just twisted on another length of thin wire, and soldered it with one of those instant "cold heat" soldering guns. i used the liquid electrical tape and brushed on a couple of coats with a small brush. Once dry, I cut a slit in a small piece of foam weatherstrip and laid the connection inside for extra protection. Hooked up the connector and pushed everything back into place.

SVXCESS - I can see my broken wires (while still located in the correct position on the roof lining) beside the pivot point - I think they were stretched during rotational movement to stop the sun coming in through side window.

The fix you suggested should be fairly easy to do (in my case) - it is only the drivers side.

I have a spare set of a JDM model - with Japanese writing on them, will fit one while I am fixing the original drivers side.

Does anyone know if the passenger side visor from a mid-90s Honda Prelude will fit an SVX?
They look very similar, but are the screws to hold in place spaced the same?
