Visor mirror flap

The flap on my drivers side visor that covers the mirror will no longer stay closed when the visor is down. Of course it also turns on the visor light. Anyone got fix? I'm half tempted to tear the damn thing off and disconnect the light.

Re: Visor mirror flap

You should unplug the light reguardless to eleminate the real chance of a car fire!
After thousands of getting flipped forward and backward the wires can break, allowing an electrical short, known to set SVXi on fire!
I thought that this was common knowledge.

Re: Visor mirror flap

I experienced this first hand! While I was repairing the visor, the wires shorted and started smoking. I was able to snip the wires before it got serious. Believe me, I was in panic mode! It's a scary feeling. I was also angry about how thin those wires were. Yes, do yourself a favor and disconnect them!

A friend of mine had his SVX sun visor wires short, and it set fire underneath the carpet under the passenger seat!
It was a nasty job replacing all of the wires that were burnt up, not connected to, but just in the same wiring loom as the ONE that went bad!
But the car was ok, thankfully.

There is nothing like finding a burning car or truck left in your care to make you move like

I keep thinking in my head that a few of us need to come up with a new FAQ or "So you bought an SVX, these are things you need to do/be aware of"

It is tucked up in the ceiling, pop off the plastic cover on the visor arm and unscrew the the 2 screws. Pull off the visor, and it will expose the connector.

Re: Visor mirror flap

Made a thread awhile ago about how it happened to mine. Luckily no fire but I wouldn't have been surprised it I wasn't far off from it. I finally got around to removing the bad wiring. Maybe I'll post a picture of how far down the damage went.

I found, when they blow up like a ballon, they are unable to get close enough for the magnet to do its thing. Cut a small slit in an inconspicuous location to deflate it and it should stay "up".
