Re: Lights in push buttons

Replacing the illumination bulbs on the dash switches.

Apply pressure to the rounded end cap on the left side of the assembly. Press inward and rotate out, I use a butter knife with a terry cloth towel (or similar) over it, to give me some leverage and prevent scratching, and pry it out.

When you pull out the switch clusters from the dash, the illumination bulbs are inside the BROWN sockets They are the ones closest to the face of the switch panel.

The BLUE sockets towards the rear are for the indicator lights, which tell you if the circuit is activated. I have never had to replace those. Using a small screwdriver, hey just twist out with a quarter-turn. Check for proper illumination before putting switches back into the dash.

Bulb number 83426PA020

Re: Lights in push buttons

Thanks. I'll try to check that fuse as soon as I have a removal tool.

Just a reality check: When I depress a switch that is currently not backlit/illuminated, I still see the amber light indicating the function is on. Would these amber bulbs light even if fuse #9 is dead?

And my climate control is working 100%, illumination and all. Can we by that conclude that fuse #9 is OK?

Yes. The fuse only controls the illumination of the switch, not the function.

That is why many members change the bulbs or fuse. The circuits still work (the amber bulb lights up when they are on) but the illumination of the switches is not there. So that is likely a fuse IF all of your switches are not illuminated. Most have only a few bulbs out.

Does the green ring around your cigarette lighter work when your lights are on? How about your light inside the glove compartment? The glove compartment bulb will not light up unless the headlights are ON. (I guess Subaru figures if it is dark enough to need headlights, then you need a light in your glovebox to see. In the daytime, you should not need it)

I notice I have 2 more lights out in the switches for the parking lights and mirror defroster. The switch pops out of the dash easy enough. but I don't see the light bulb sockets. Looks like the switch might come apart. Wondering if anyone else has dealt with this before. Are the bulbs accessible inside the switch? I don't want to pull the switch apart if that isn't what I am supposed to do. Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know how to access the indicator lights for the heated mirror/parking lights?

None of the switches are illuminated except those on the climate control.

Never saw a green light around the cigarette lighter but that part is somewhat loose and the business end does not attach properly when I push it in. It's a bit like my toaster doesn't work if it's unplugged But then again, it might just be too loose and therefore dysfunctional at the moment.

Glove compartment is untested, I think I've opened it twice. My lights are always on since local regulation demands it. They turn off automatically when I power down the car.

Re: Lights in push buttons

According to this site, 7219 bulbs can be replaced with T1 (3mm wire terminal) LEDs.
http://www.ledtronics.com/Products/P...ls.aspx?WP=172

Has anyone tried this? I think this is a better solution than replacing old incandescents with new ones that will just burn out again.

I looked at the site to possibly order some to try, and I could not get what was needed. I will keep trying, but if someone has figured it out, let me know.

Yeah, their site was weird, but I was just gonna go to a Radio Shack and get some 12v 3mm LEDs and try to see if they worked.

Has anyone replaced the lights in the switch noted above. I pulled it out a bit but did not see the bulbs. Do you need to take the switch apart?

Thanks. Not sure how I would have found that. Maybe that info should be in the how to section.

I will give it a try. Thanks again.

For the room light switch, carefully remove the two lenses over the spotlights with a small flat-blade screwdriver. They are slotted for this purpose.

Once the lenses are out, you can see the 2 Phillips head mounting screws. Remove the two screws (one each side) that you now have access to.

Pull down the assembly and disconnect the wiring harness. On top there are two sockets with a screwdriver slot, similar to the lights on the dash. These are the bulb holders. Each bulb illuminates 2 buttons.

Unscrew the bulbs with a quarter turn. The replacement bulbs are 83426PA000.

Reassemble and reinstall.
I just did this. Very easy to do. Thanks for the directions. Just one thing, when you disconnect the assembly, there is a cover you need to take off with 4 Phillips Head screws. The light sockets are under the cover. Don't worry, nothing will fall apart, Very straight forward.

Re: Lights in push buttons

Checked the fuse, it was OK. Swapped it anyway. No difference.

So next step is checking if the relevant sockets get any power at all. Does anyone know which wire(s) we are talking about?

Alternatively, do I have to pull a switch and check a socket with a meter?
