High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
The high pressure power steering hose on my '94 LS is leaking like a lawn sprinkler. I have one from a '92 LS-L, but it appears to be two pieces instead of one piece- anyone know if it will fit?
Also, is it easier/cheaper (or even possible) to have the P/S hose rebuilt rather than purchasing a new one? Subaruparts.com wants $99 for a new one- has anyone seen a better deal on one anywhere? |

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
Get yours rebuilt locally. It will be cheaper, and will be better than the original part. You won't have to worry about it again for another 20+ years.
The 2 power steering hose types can be swapped, they just route differently "around" the intake manifold on the passenger side. |

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
Your only replacement option is from Subaru.
Many people have taken the leaky one to a shop that repairs hydraulic lines for a cheaper repair. If you're not sure where to go in your area, check NAPA, many of them do it. If not check at places that repair heavy equip (back hoes, loaders).

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
I replaced my two piece with the one piece P/S hose. I paid $50 in 2008 at Subaruparts.com. I tried to have one made up, but the connectors were difficult to replica, so they told me.

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
Any Hydraulic shop should be able to do it for about $40-60. Check your phone book or call a tractor dealer.
Getting the hose is much easier then putting it in if I remember right from my 95.

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
I have had about six hoses rebuilt for about $40.00 each at the time.
I believe that three have failed already. New from Subaru for me, untill they no longer exist!

Re: High Pressure P/S Hose Leaking badly: Options?
Just to confirm what 1986nate and danmarr said, the 1- and 2-piece hoses are interchangeable. I just swapped the 2-piece from my '92 over to the '94, as I have more time than money right now.
