One of the rubber intake boots wasn't properly seated last time it was installed. This may have caused some of my problems since it could have been taking in unmetered air where the rubber was folded over.

Someone wrote "SVX" on my MAF! Probably not the original...

I also found this scratched in the mating face of the MAF:

My camshaft is named Rex

Those valve covers were dirty!
The air intake boots from the air box to the throttle body can be a royal PITA to get back on the throttle body. I cleaned my MAF a few days ago, used Vaseline to grease the connection, nope, a major, major PITA, finally held my manos just right & OMG, slipped right into place, what a crock!!!!!!!! Hate that job

I don't know?!
When I find it I fix it,
and usually do a whole other bunch of stuff at the same time.
IF I were to test before and afterward, and that was the only thing that I had done, I could give a better answer.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?

Ok, I guess I'll never know since I did a bunch of other stuff at the same time, too!
I'll see how she performs tomorrow morning. It's not supposed to get cool tonight (48 degrees), but it'll be a better test than when it's 70.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?

Well, still a little hesitation, but much better than before. Maybe I should try the ECU crush now? anyone have any bad experiences with that?

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?

Okay, bringing this thread back from the dead! My battery is dying so I've had the hood open frequently the past few days to jump it while I'm waiting for my new Optima Blue Top to arrive. Anyway, I noticed that my dipstick has continued it's old habit of popping up! I replaced the PCV valve when I did my valve cover gaskets, so now I'm not sure what the issue could be.
Other than it's just being a dipstick

The PCV valve works great at idle and cruise, pulling the fumes from the crankcase, but when the pedal is down, the valve is closed, so the crankcase has to get rid of the blow-by using the small passages that you see here along the bottom of the air box, and if they are as gooie as the inside of the air box, they won't get all the pressure out. So the pressure goes up and the dick stick goes with it.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?

^ Makes sense. Also, the dipstick has a little O-ring near the top. If it's gotten very loose, then the dipstick might just be vibrating/wiggling its way up.

I agree, the o-ring wears, ages & loses its ability to stay in place. Get a new o-ring.
