quick transmission question 1-2 hard shift

When the car is cold the transmission will shift kind of hard from first to second. Once the car warms up the problem mostly goes away and under quicker acceleration the problem goes away. Could it be a simple fix like a band adjustment? Also for a car with higher mileage what type of aft are people running?

Joe

Re: quick transmission question 1-2 hard shift

When the car is cold, does it do a hard shift from P to D?

OK its not the band.
If there is no Power light flashing a code 21, for the temp sensor, its the ATF is too thick, may be contaminated with diff oil?

Couldn't it also be the resistor near the battery?

No, if it was the resistor, it would not come good when it warms up.
The TCU has a function that looks at the oil temp, and alters the line pressure to suit the colder oil. It would appear that the oil has a higher viscosity than the normal ATF, so the correction function, can't get the pressure to suit the oil.

Re: quick transmission question 1-2 hard shift

The car is a OBD2 and I have no codes for the tranny. When I got the car I did a flush on the tranny and did not see any diff oil and I had then problem then. In 2 weeks I plan on dropping the pan and doing the fliter. what would be a good ATF to use?

I would like to do a 4.44 swap but to get the car inspected the exhaust has to be replaced.

I can't see any other reason for the pressure being high when it is cold. You would get a code if there was a fault in the 'correction' system.
I would use the ATF that Subaru recommends.
