Re: SAAB goes under

I never really knew much about SAAB but my sisters boss let her borrow a mid 90's convertible something or other SAAB and I remember it being very BMW like in quality and feel... at least, that was my impression from it. I liked how compact it was and 'fun' it felt.... even though the styling wasn't all to be desired it did have a few aspects of design I liked but ultimately I loved the way it drove. Never being a fan on the idea of a convertible, this sort of changed that closed minded outlook of mine. I had asked her to let him know that if he ever were to sell it to please let me know. (It ended up having some issues a year later and he sold it to someone he knew for a mere $500... I was sort of peeved about it but what can you do.)

Every once in a while I will look on craigslist for an older SAAB in hopes maybe I'll find one cheap enough but know I definitely don't need another kid to take care of at this time .

The interesting thing to me is that I have not heard any talk at all of a government bail out. I guess we are the only country dumb enough to do that.

Re: SAAB goes under

I once owned a 1978 SAAB EMS, non turbo 5 speed. I found it very reliable, somewhat quick, and fun to drive. I also liked the ignition switch in the middle console. It was a different kind of car, for a different kind of driver.
Hay that sounds almost like a Subaru advertisement.

Obviously, you didn't follow the long and drawn out saga starting back when GM first unloaded 'em. The Swedish Gov't as well as well as a bunch of loans and incentives from the EU went into the deal. They followed the Briitsh model which leads to immediate failure rather than the Fiat Motors model or Goverment Motors.

Finally some cold weather. Will I see ya at Roundtop soon?

Sure, this it. LoL

My understanding is Saab asked for a bailout and the Swedish government said no, we are a government not a automobile company. But you are right I haven't been paying too much attention.

Ben, I'll be at Roundtop tomorrow for opening day. I am not exactly regretting buying my season pass, but I am very anxious to get started.

This^

is what should bring the end of any company.

Cool cars, poor brand recognition, stale line up.

Now you're understanding the plight of the SVX.

Re: SAAB goes under

meh, i liked how they drove and some of how they looked but they are unreliable junk, i tried to order an ignition switch of an 05 convertible and their were 400 on back order, that car was hell from all angles. parts suck to get a hold of, and when you do they are even harder to install

Re: SAAB goes under

a fellow mechanic that works on saabs told me they are still taking parts orders but with no expected delivery date. they will take your money but give you nothing. also said parts prices had nearly doubled while the car values are less than half from several years ago.

Re: SAAB goes under

Saab parts distribution is a different company, and is unaffected by the BK. I've had no issues getting parts lately.
