They are completely different cars... one is STi's near rally prepped version of Subaru's bread and butter econobox for the masses...

The other was a quirky high end GT halo product that was a failed loss leader! Comparing them is silly.

The ONLY comparison I am making is appearance. Again the STi is fugly. The SVX was and is a very striking car--unfortunately ahead of its time when produced and from a fairly unknown manufacturer at the time. AND as you have noted was produced for a totally different market than the WRX/STi.

there are many who think the SVX is fugly - it didn't exactly fly off the lots. i never thought much of the SVX until i saw a '97 grille and no two-tone paint on it.

I wouldn't say ugly... just not striking. After all it is a souped up econobox. No different than a VW Golf, Lancer, Fiat, Focus, Delta, or any other econo rally car for the past 20 years! They all come from the same place (entry level, 2 litre, economy car.)

So these cars don't impress with their looks... they impress by the technology that can take a little grocery getter and give Porsche a run for it's money. Give em a break... look at what they are working with in the first place!:

The Fugly! model is the new STI in the first picture, the older models are much better looking and not ugly at all to my taste.

Re: New STi

I like it, then again I never could figure out why they only released the STi package in the ugly-ass hatchback version last year.

Re: New STi

i dont like it, but im pretty sure itll grow on me. im still a fan of the gc/2.5rs body, i still love those.

however, if we're going for new cars, ill gladly wait for the o86a/toyobaru venture. i have plans to make that my first new car purchase in a couple of years... so long as it is released!
