Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

I agree with that quote from Pretty Woman. I also feel that to drive one is to love it. I know I am not going anywhere and the network here is as strong as ever. We are in the process of doing some much needed improvements such as more storage space and upgrades on software. We will be adding some other features that will improve the site as well. I have tried to get some additional things such as badges that indicate registration of their car and now there will be a Classic Registration which some members already have done, but there will be a badge for it.

Time is very important to people now, and it is more difficult to take the time and visit here. There will always be the hard core or dedicated that will be around, but we have to face the fact that the SVX is slowly loosing numbers each year and unless a member buys another one or already has another one, we will see fewer numbers in ther future.

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

For me it has a lot to do with lost friends/competitors...

When I first started in 2003, there was quite a decent group of us doing relatively simple mods to the cars, we would all try to get together at events like drag racing or Auto-X and we would have a lot of fun competing and our cars, as different as they may be were usually pretty close to one another.

Quite frankly, this crowd has all but let their fun get away from them...*cough* Bill, BenHoc, Chike, Svxfiles, and some others *cough*

For me there has also come a time when I sit back and realize what I have done and what I could do... My SVX is quite a machine the way it is, raw power, handles very well, yet it is still plagued with common issues you find with all SVXi, stupid little things that just keep me under the hood and under the lift rather than in the driver's seat... The days when I couldn't wait to work on my next mod are over... I can either leave it the way it is or dump a boat load of cash into it to make it even better... I chose to leave it and hopefully someone else will buy it and enjoy it, continuing its legacy as the fastest SVX in the world.

I have also had an intrusion into my garage as of late. You might be able to gather something from my avatar as to what make it is... Model and other info will be disclosed once appropriate pictures are taken. Bone stock, this car is hands down better than my SVX in every way... it is newer, less miles, and good god does it drive So moving on is what I am doing, hoping, wishing someone will fill my shoes, but with the way the SVX world has worked in the past, I will likely be blamed...

Tom

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

If anything I think I post too much. I'm like a junkie with these cars. (Here I go again right)

I think we have had a lot highly active members move on to various other cars in last few years, and we are feeling that the loss of their passion for the cars. I also think many owners who bought cheap don't have funds or desire to maintain them. I know how it is, it can be frustrating to do the small repair after repair, only have a major problem pop up when you have no more money left. They part them out at the first big ticket repair, or simply unload them for even less, leading to a part out. I wonder what things will look like in 5 years time, probably a lot less of these cars around by then.

Still even with all that, I can say with certainty that if it were not for this board and members on it, I would not be an owner. The board and it's current and past members are an incredible group of people and I thank you all for the help over the years.

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

I am a new member, and as such many mods that I hear I try searching for, sometimes I stumble over them and sometimes not. it is annoying when I search for 15 minute mod and it says 15 is too short try different key words.
I however love this car I wish prices were cheaper but that is life. I work with what I have and save for what I dont. but like Sean says if a major problem pops up I would be at a loss. I do not plan on selling I do most of the work myself, which is both good and bad, Not being familiar with this particular car and setup some times an easy job becomes a nightmare, or you break something else while trying to fix things.

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

Well since I am pretty new around here I can offer some insight from that perspective.

1) Rare cars, even more so now a days. So there isnt that many of us. Honestly I use this forum to research typical problems and source parts.

2) Why is it for that reason? Well This forum has "that guy". There is one on every forum. That guy is rude, self-righteous and wants everyone to accept that he knows more than they do (even if he doesn't). Honestly its a disservice more to this site than you can imagine. I have been through tons of old threads researching information only to see him beat a subject to death trying to prove someone wrong and then just go on and on hoping for someone to acknowledge he is right. Its pretty pathetic. I got jumped on my very first thread by this person. How do you think that makes new members feel about this site?

3) For as long as the above situation in reason #3 has been going on, its fairly apparent no one cares to do a damn thing about it. So why would this encourage people to be more active? It doesn't.

4) I own a website.. its very busy during the fall-spring time frame but very slow in the summer months. Just the way it is, I know I have tons of stuff I would rather be doing than setting in front of the PC!

Anyway, that's my take. Like it or not, act on it or not... its not my place to dictate these things.

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

Have you ever gone to a bar, walked in, and heard the bartender yell "last call"? You just wanted to relax and settle in, but then you realize that if you don't hurry up, you won't get your drink on. I feel kinda like that.

I've wanted an SVX since I was 10 years old. I looked at getting one back when I was in school about 6 years ago; couldn't afford it. Looked at another one when I was a delivery driver for a production company; needed work and I needed something running. Finally I get a job where I can afford to get my dream car, my commute is short, and my old delivery car finally gave up the ghost. I bought my first SVX, and the first thing I did was come here and sign up.

While there still are developments being made today (mostly on suspension components) I feel that if I don't grab them now, I won't get a chance. The Hydra was on sale for barely over a year and now it's possibly gone. The supercharger kits have come and gone long before I showed up. Even Alcyone hood badges have gone from a common item to an expensive luxury item that nobody can justify while their bearings are whining and rack leaking. To those who've had their cars for years, and added every item as they became available, hold on to these cars. The rest of us who just jumped into the game with 200k mile cars will simply never be able to do what you've done over the course of a decade.

I'm hanging on to my old car, and will keep on visiting here as long as I possibly can. I'm a SVXer for life; just a little late to the game.

Re: What is happening with SVXWN?

Danny,
Just picked up on this thread.
I, for one, have not been as regular on this forum as in the past, and like many others, there are competing activities. Other forums, like FaceBook, weren't not around a year ago. I didn't have a granddaughter two years ago. So lots go into it. But a couple of years ago, I had only one SVX - now I have two (no worries, Earl - I'll never catch up with you!!).
Also, there are fewer SVXi and hence fewer owners to come to the forum. Eventually, we will be a unique (and few in number) group, for that reason. There are other cars that are better out there (Tom has found that BMW, and if I could find and afford a M-Coupe, I would probably sell "one" of my SVXi, 'cause I've always wanted a M-Coupe). And there are other cars I would like to own before I depart this world (and I better hurry at my age). So lots of reasons for fewer posts these days, but if some go away, that will leave us "hardcore" types to enjoy the car and each other more ....
Just my 2 cents ....

Harry

I come on every morning, helps get rid of the mornings downers. I try to help any body as much as I can, as I can usually remember who said or where the info is that they may want.
I agree that the membership has changed over the years, not many of the dictated SVX addicts left, a new younger membership has arrived.

Harvey.

I understand that you are frustrated with the search function. It is not the best for sure. If you can not find what you are looking for, ask. You should not be flammed if you ask for something you can't find. Most of us understand that. I watch for that and hope you will ask your question. That is what we are here for - to help other members out.

Silver, (I hope you don't mind me addressing you by first name only)

I started posting on the old KC (Kinetic Concepts) site in 1996. I am older and slower and don't have as much to say anymore.

So I'll take you up on increasing my number of posts. I'll start a new thread and it will start with you. The thread will be "How do we get our overseas SVX brethren to the Reading XII SVX Meet?"
