my job....

sometimes i am scared of my job , consisting of driving trains, i often go trough that route to get to toronto....fortunetly there was no human damage.

they "cleaned" the mess, they only put the wagons aside the roadbed to put a new track , took less than 36 hours before trains could go again.

Re: my job....

Aside from the danger, looks like a nice job to me.

Re: my job....

I don't know if there's anything that's manmade to top trains for kinetic energy outside of NASA, but it sure shows in those rippled tracks. Dang!

Re: my job....

it could be the crossover default when the train was going on it. the "switches" turned by themself...like a short circuit.or either a "washout" because of the summer coming...hot cold hot cold ya know ?

look at the picture , there is 2 rails. 10 minutes before the derailement this and another train got side by side about 12 miles behind. we need to do emergency calls on the main frequence to call up any incumming train that a mess happened to make them stop as soon as possible. at this exact place train running at an average of 60m\h, it takes about 3-4 miles to stop.during a normal trip of 250 miles you meet about 10 trains on the adjacent track.

yes it is still a very cool job . i love running trains. but accident aren't smalls..since 3 years i started this, there was 4 live lost + 3 co-worker that has lost their limbs +5 that died of cardiac crisis that were younger than 50 !!...of ~300 employees. we make very hard hours too, just like truckers i would tell you. this job is not all about running train , we need to deliver the wagon to the industrys too, this is mostly where all the accidents happens, working outside at any weather. either-40c to 30c ,raining, snowing adds difficulty of the weird hours we do, in the same week i can do 2 day shifts. 1 afternoon 2 night. depend of the scheldule, but hey. i guess i am well paid for that.
