Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

My rims are dented badly, and I have the option of buying a set of jdm STI wheels off an acquaintance with tires for $500. I just paid almost $1700 for books/subscriptions and I was putting off buying anything for the car until I paid off my tuition and graduation fees, but I need front tires and at least 2 rims in order to continue driving to school and work . I figured for not much more these might be a better investment if the 235/45/17s would fit without rubbing. I'd appreciate anyone with some input.

According to the tire size calculator http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit
They should be a close size fitment. Now depending on the rims offset and width is where you would find trouble with rubbing.
Get a rim that has the correct fitment.

Yes, you'll be fine. Make sure the wheels are 5x114.3, not 5x100.

I've had a bunch of 225/45/17s,
and I now have 245/45/17s on my Claret without rubbing.
You should be fine.

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

your looking at 5mm wider and profile is lower than before so speedo will be slightly out - but will run on SVX no probs.

Useful link for cross matching tyres and rims

OK, I was half asleep earlier.
The tire is about 1/2" TALLER than the stock tire and will be harder/harsher on your transmission by slightly changing the final drive ratio...

Since my Claret has a MUCH lower first gear ratio because of the 4.44s its not a problem for me.

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

Thanks for the info everyone, ideally appreciate it. They're jdm sti wheels, and the offset are Typical of oem wheels, +48 or something. My trans is crap, I'm jet waiting for it to take a dump to do a 4.44 swap or the like. Seems like I chose a bad time to be a SVX owner too, what with AWD closing down and me trying to make ends meet forthe next few months. I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time here in the future.

We have stock wheels if you need/want them. Just FYI. I won't have room for them soon.

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

is there any logical reason why
rims are measure in inches
tyres are metric
offset is metric
PCD is either imp or metric

and we still measure pressure in PSI in metric countries!

"just to clarify - so OP is given correct information - by changing to 17" does make the rim dia larger, but using 45 profile tyres results in SMALLER tyre diameter thereby giving a tyre circumference some 100mm less than stock - speedo will read 4 - 5 kph slower as well."
The actual numbers are as follows;
The 235/45/17 tire will be about 11.9mm taller than the stock 225/50/16 tire,
with a spedometer READING 98.1 mph of kph when the vehicle is traveling at an actual speed of 100 mph or kph.

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

yes, my bad - I was using 60 instead of 50 profile as the stock tyre and thought that they should be pretty similar in size and realised my mistake.
Mind you even with stock rims I reckon my speedo is not correct - maybe 5 - 10 km under on the highway

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

Anyone in the US know of companies that can manufacture alloy wheels to order? I'm looking at options of having a set of either 18" or 19" wheels made based on the stock SVX design, albeit in a larger diameter, including the left/right fit.... that way I can maintain the stock appearance, well at first glance anyway.

Re: Will 235/45/17 rub on the SVX?

A one-off set of wheels is doable, but will be ungodly expensive. I mean stupidly, rediculously, unbelievably expensive. I wouldn't even blink if the quote was over $10,000.
