Re: Redoing the suede
Was this for both sides of the door? And may I ask, where did you get this done? It's somewhere around $250 just for the drivers side to replace from some Subaru dealers and I fell back on that idea because I felt the price was too steep.

Re: Redoing the suede
I would probably talk to an upholsterer by profession, who would probably be faster and higher quality at handling the material. Plus you aren't paying for a new door card, you are paying for some material, and a skill set to remove the old, and apply the new material to your existing door cards, and dash panels.
A Subaru mechanic may or may not have experience with re-upholstering, and probably would charge a higher shop labor rate. And just straight replacement parts from Subaru probably means replacing the whole door card, and is likely an expensive part, even without the labor to re-upholster. Not to mention they'll probably build in the cost of shipping that big door card from a warehouse to your dealership. Even more if you are talking about both door cards, and the dash pieces... plus the labor to dismantle and re-assemble the dash to change the passenger side dash pad. Conversely, I wouldn't take the car to an upholsterer to ask for an engine overhaul, but rather a good mechanic.

Re: Redoing the suede
I'm betting that the Subaru tech is intending to replace the suede part of the door panel, no re-upholster it. There's no way a dealer would be interested in what basically amounts to custom interior work.

Re: Redoing the suede
Well yea, that's what I meant by them replacing it as a whole, which I guess explains the expense. I have no idea what to even begin to look for , for upholstery services. Upholstery services maybe? lol

Re: Redoing the suede
yup, a local upholstery shop.
Or possibly a good custom stereo or car customizing shop... sometimes they do custom interior finishing work... depends on the shop.

Re: Redoing the suede
I had an automotive upholstery guy do my work. He put all new suede on each piece of the interior. I just redid each door and the rear passenger seats. It is as good as new if not better. I'd just do a quick search in your local yellowpages or search the internet for automotive upholsterers in your area. They really are a dime a dozen, just have to shop around and see the quality of their work in person. It was well worth it in my opinion.

Re: Redoing the suede
ClassicSoftTrim.com has all the patterns for all of the interior ESCAINE/ALCANTARA pieces
The door pieces are actually two pieces stitched together, with a stitch on either side, giving the appearance of three lines. A good shop can get it right, like Classic Soft Trim.
