Would like to buy locally, or close: Grey Leather power driver's seat for 92 LS-L
As the title states...
I am wondering if there is a gray leather driver's seat in good, complete shape, that is within one day's round trip drive from central Iowa. Mine is seam-ripped and torn, and getting worse in the cold. The seat is too heavy and cumbersome to really ship, and the expense would be high. I would prefer it within range that I could come and pick it up, if possible. Will entertain the possibility of buying from a longer distance, if someone is hauling cargo across country, and could transport it from it's current location to somewhere close to me along the way. PM me, if I don't respond to this thread shortly.

Not sure if you'll have any better luck finding it, but if someone long-distance had just the leather coverings in good condition that could be shipped easy and the job isn't TOO terribly hard since I pioneered the method back in 2001.
And resurfacing the power driver's seat is actually easier than the passenger seat, less moving parts and cables to deal with. Of course even with broadening your search area, it will still be hard to find someone getting rid of leather in good condition, and harder still to convince them to dismantle their seat for you.

I would entertain that possibility...
The bottom foam could probably stand to be replaced, as well, but foam can be done locally at an upholstery shop, if needed. I guess I didn't figure a lot of folks to just have the upholstery kit available, and a whole seat is a heavy, large parcel to ship. I've thought about getting the whole leather re-upholstery kit, but last I saw, they were 900$... just 100$ shy of what I paid for the whole car.

Re: Would like to buy locally, or close: Grey Leather power driver's seat for 92 LS-L
Yeah I actually got my newish stock leather from Dayle for like $100 because one of his customers left it behind when getting one of their full kits installed (which were only $700ish back then).
I pondered how I would be able to get the dozens of tiny rusted rings back around the loops to hold the new leather on until I suddenly thought of plastic wire ties! They work like a charm and hold the upholstery on better than the stock rings and with no rust! Nordique did his sometime after and when I told him the zip-tie trick he was needless to say pleased. Glad he did an actual write-up, I never even realized that was out there.

Re: Would like to buy locally, or close: Grey Leather power driver's seat for 92 LS-L
I would be a bit cautious using zip ties. It doesn't take a whole lot of time before the plastic they are made of grows brittle and snaps under constant movement. Upholstery pulls against its frame quite a bit. For security of your work just buy a set of hog ring pliers at harbor freight or a similar store. Hog ring is the name of the metal rings holding upholstery on. Most upholstery shops will sell you a bunch for a couple of dollars and then you can finish it the way professionals do. I tend to believe they have a reason for continuing to use the metal rings in what they do.

Quote:
Yeah, if you can get the proper tool and new rings and it becomes easy enough, might be the better route. Once my seat was all back together with zip ties there was ZERO difference to stock and no one would ever know. It's been 9 years and every part of the seats is holding fine, but if I ever did get a new leather kit or something maybe I'll keep that in mind.

You can get stainless steel hog rings so they won't rust.

Probably something Subaru should have used in the first place.
Although the rust is really no problem and you don't see it unless you replace the seat covers anyway.
