Re: Cash for clunkers...the final installment perhaps

I don't know if dealers are doing this elsewhere but, if you check some of the promotional ads in the Atlanta Journal Constitution newswpaper and do a little math on before and after prices, you will see that you only save $2,000 on the price of the car over normal dealer incentives.

Re: Cash for clunkers...the final installment perhaps

Cash for Clunkers to end on Monday
AP

WASHINGTON – Car shoppers have until Monday night to take advantage of lucrative Cash for Clunkers rebates from the government, and the Obama administration is hoping for a smooth ending to a program that has spurred auto sales but created headaches for many auto dealers.

The popular program will end at 8 p.m. EDT Monday after burning through much of its $3 billion in funding in just a month. All new deals will have to be completed and dealers must file their paperwork by the deadline in order to get repaid for the big incentives.

Hooray!!!!!

Looks like most of the dealers have still not been paid. That is what happens when the government gets involved.

Re: Cash for clunkers...the final installment perhaps

The local dealership has a few hundred clunkers waiting to be scrapped. guess they havent been paid either And the junkyards are happy about this program too, no incentive for them. America "hoped" for "change" and thats what will get usually not the change we want.

Those would be my opinions.

I think I understand this now! You spend money you don't have for a new car and you get out of debt! Well, that is what we are doing in this country, so why shouldn't it work for us?

Re: Cash for clunkers...the final installment perhaps

*stands on soapbox*

Recent article in the LA Times said that the Trans. Dept said that they have had about 690000 vehicles get traded in. That's about right in terms of the 3 billion spent on the program.

However, there it was reported that 12% of the people who took advantage of this program had buyer’s remorse because they now have a monthly car payment. The usual level of buyers remorse is 6%-7%.

Who is this program really helping? It can’t be the American people b/c those who bought new cars now have a car payment, higher registration, and have to get full coverage. Was the amount of gas savings enough to cover these increases?

It can't be the local American economy. Let's say you had a true clunker that needed about 100 dollars in maintenance a month, you would be spending that money on the local economy. It would go to the parts stores and the repair shops.

Who is it? Is it the poor finance companies who came to the government with hat in hand asking for some pity? The people who took advantage of the program are paying their monthly car payments to a FINANCE COMPANY. Probably the same ones that got us in the situation that we are in. Talk about a transfer of wealth from MAIN STREET to WALL STREET. An economist needs to do a research paper on the effects of the CARS program on the local economy in the next 6 – 12 months.

So as much as the Trans. Dept and the Administration are touting that “this program is a wild success”.. “we generated .3%-.4% growth in the economy and created or saved 22,000 jobs”

The true impact of this remains to be seen.

As for me… they can pour sodium silicate into my Subarus when they pry the keys from my cold dead fingers.

*bows and steps down from soapbox, just dodging the sniper bullet whizzing by head*

I personally really like the way that you have phrased this.

Some of us work our collective a$$es off to save these rare and fine vehicles.

Go trash a worn out maxivan!
