Midwest SVXers

So, I was the only one from the midwest in Reading. I think we need to change that for next year. I know of another member in Chicago who as of right now is planning and wanting to go next year in his SVX. I also plan on having mine fixed up to go next year. It really is a great time where so many fellow SVXers just gather together and have a good time all for the sake of just seeing other people who love this crazy car.

So for next year I think that it would be awesome to have a caravan go along the whole way. We can all meet up in say the Chicago area and have a mini meet before heading to Reading. It really isn't that long or bad of a drive either for those thinking its a hassle. I took US 30 across Indiana and Ohio and then basically I80 across Pennsylvania. It avoids all toal roads and from the south side of Chicago it is only about an 11 hour drive even with stops for gas/food/etc. We can also have a route planned with possible times so that others can join along the way if they don't feel like back tracking to the Chicago area.

I just see all of the other regions having regular posts and just see our pathetic region that doesn't even have a single post in the past month and only a couple threads in the last year. If some of you really don't feel like going all the way to PA, we should organize a yearly meet around here sometime that way its a little closer but we can still all gather and have a good time.

I guess thats my rant and idea. I just want to hear from some others in the region and hope that we can get some more involvement similar to what they have especially in the Northeast and east.

Re: Midwest SVXers

I'm a little bit farther west than midwest, but I'd love to caravan out next year. I wish there was something a little more centralized, but I understand this has been going on for a long time and there's a lot of tradition involved.

Re: Midwest SVXers

I know there were a few of you from out west and that I didn't travel the futhest and thats great. My point basically in starting this thread is that Storminnorman drove from Oregon, YES OREGON!!! and there was Earthworm from up in Winnipeg who drives every year. So I think that there should be more of us from the midwest. And obviously we could all caravan with those from the west as well. That's why I'm posting now so that word gets out and people that don't log on much see it. Also to decide where a good meeting point would be.

And for those of you worried about taking your SVX, don't worry about taking a different vehicle if need be. Just seeing all the other SVXi and other fellow members makes it a great trip and well worth it.

Hey, I don't drive EVERY year. There's a 30% chance of Earthworm in Reading

Okay, well still, you drove this year and its 26 hours one way. What I'm still wondering is how Ivy was able to stand being in the back that whole trip, much less any longer than a short trip of 20 min.

Ivy says it was her little sanctuary. She wonders how my dad, in the passenger seat, could put up with her feet in his face

Re: Midwest SVXers

I've been to a number of meets beginning with the 2002 10th Anniversary meet. I've attended multiple Reading meets both with and without one of my SVX fleet and have to say they are always a good time due to the people you meet. The last two years I've been unable to make it out but hope to next year.

Re: Midwest SVXers

I might be up for that.

My wife may be working, so I'll have to pick one of the Subarus to bring.

I suppose it will depend on whether the Legacy has new struts by then, or if the SVX has new alternator wiring, and the bosch relay mod by then.

Re: Midwest SVXers

I am giving this a bump, moreso for the fact of actively trying to get a midwest/ even central US located yearly meet together. Say maybe St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines. Something so that people here in the central US can get together. The East Coast obviously has Reading, the West coast now has a few good meets that seem to be put together. Just needs to be something here in the middle. Hell, we could even move around the meet to a different city each year just to keep things exciting and a little different.
Let me know what anyone thinks. Ideas and opinions are all accepted no matter what...

Re: Midwest SVXers

I'd be down. It is almost 30 hour drive to reading from me. I don't know if my car would make it that far. This would be the first year I could get the time off anyway. Chicago is still like 15 hours, denver is more reasonable at 8. But that's just me. I either need my motor to quit before the 20th so I can build it or last long enough to get me thru it so might as well have a practice round.

I still say we all need to get together in vegas
