it requires 91, but you don't see that very often around here, mainly 87, 89, and 93.

i need to try to do some lobbying for the XT.
Why ditch the WRX for something bigger?

Haven't you got her programmed to love performance over just about anything else in a vehicle?

You should at least try the tactic that the price difference that would normally be present between the two will easilly account for the gas price difference for years.

Racing fuel? Are you serious? Why? Higher octane does nothing to enhance performance; it simply prevents detonation in high-compression racing engines.

I've kept meticulous records on fuel consumption for years and have recorded no difference in economy -- zero -- between running pure 93 octane (premium in these parts) and EconoSludge. Maybe it has to do with driving style; I go pretty easy on the old gals, generally speaking, but do like to let 'em stretch their legs from time to time, once they've warmed up.

Never mind economy: The old Legacy I owned sounded like it had marbles in the cylinders if I dared feed it anything other than premium.

As to brands, I've been driving old cars for 30+ years and have always bought the cheapest fuel available, and I've never experienced a fuel-related problem excepting a sudden-and-complete fuel pump failure in an '86 GL wagon at 180,000-something miles. I fault age and miles, not chunky gas.

Thats $6.31 a gallon... or $113.63 to fill an 18 gallon tank.
The cost of gas in other countries keeps me from complaining about my having to pay $2.75 a gallon for premium.

I was always under the impression that running anything below 91 in the SVX (without ECU modifications) would cause a knock to develop.

Side rant - the last time I filled up the Lexus the guy filled it with 87 even though I clearly asked for 93 (there's no 91 around here). I checked the manual to make sure it was ok to drive on regular and it said for best performance use 91 or higher, but 87 is ok bla bla bla. The car runs fine, but I have the distinct feeling of towing a large boat.

I don't see the point of either, I pay a total of like 3.00 more for premium something they suggest doing so I do it, regardless of Econ. Now If it was a 1.00 or more for premium then I would have issues. I don't see why they would say use premium if it was for no reason. But I pay 2.93-2.98 depending on they day. /end rant.

I did not mention in this thread that the first 120K miles on my long timer were at low altitude (Georgia), the middle 50K at average altitude (Okla) and the last approx 60K at high altitude. Sooooo, I would say that regular 86 octane runs great at ALL altitudes.

Like I said--go ahead and spend your money needlessly if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

I always run premium because I love my car and I trust the engineers knew what they were doing. Good reason to not use the mid grade.... at least around here the mid grade is ethanol mix. Is that stuff any good for our cars?
