Got an SVX!

Always liked the SVX's, just couldn't afford a decent one for awhile. Finally saved up some coin and got one!
picked up a 1992 Subaru SVX. 3000$ for it! it was a steal.
only 130 000 km's. fully stock.
It's the "Claret" color.
It has a fair ding on the passenger front panel but its purely cosmetic.
It is the touring package edition as well.
I plan to do a full fluid/filter changes on it ASAP. and tires. stereo and take out the Catalytic converters.
Should post pictures when i wash/wax it tomorrow!

Hi Strife, welcome to the network.

You may want to hold back and do some research before you get too excited. tearing out your cats without a carefully designed replacement won't sound very good. And do some research on changing tranny fluid, flushing the tranny can do more harm than good.

Sorry, I know across as a buzzkill - congrats on your purchase! Welcome to the most individual, quirky, and rewarding car you'll ever own. The search button is your friend around here, and any thing you can't find is usually a quick question away, we're all here to help.

Hello Strife, and like the guys above say, Welcome.

130K kms is very low for these cars, it must be in good condition, congratulations on the purchase.

Unless the cats are damaged, I don't know why you would bother taking them out. The exhaust system is very carefully balanced for optimum torque using optimal gas velocity, so taking them away will leave you with a worse sound and debatable power improvement. It's not like the exhaust is restricting the engine, it's an NA engine, not pressurised or blown, so the major difference you will make is to the sound.

Oh, and you will be pumping unburnt complex hydrocarbon carcinogens into the atmosphere as well, nearly forgot about that one.

Joe

Congrats on your new SVX. This is a great place to learn more than you thought you needed to know!!
Did you get the claret from Vancouver that was on Used Victoria? I was looking at it online Friday.
Welcome and Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, i did purchase the Claret one off usedvic from Vancouver.
Well, taking the Cat's out probably would be a bad thing, but I would like a deeper louder tone for the exhaust, so i shall research mufflers instead?
as for burning unburnt complex hydrocarbon carcinogens into the atmosphere, i've been driving a 23 year old 305ci engine that goes through about as much oil as it does gas, it has no emission items left on it. I'm not too considerate when it comes to the environment
Also, I'm considering getting new rims for the car (ones on there are a little worn) and I'm definitely not a fan of chrome rims, anyone know any pics/persons that have black rims on their SVX? I couldn't seem to find any pics.
And im just going to go wash it and take pictures!

HOLY CRAP! BOTH ENGINE COVER CLIPS!!!

I must say, that is a very straight svx. It'll look REALLY good once you detail it. Congradulations on the purchace, and welcome aboard

+1 for black rims.

That's a great looking SVX, but aren't they all? Claret is one of my favorite colors. From seeing the DSM in that last extrior pic, I'm betting it's one of yours too.

Yeah, unfortunately i purchased a 1991 eagle talon TSI AWD Auto last November for a winter vehicle. wasn't bad for 800$ but transmission was stuck in 3rd gear. i'm just finished rebuilding the transmission computer and am re-installing it tomorrow and selling that POC... :P
i am absolutely dying to drive this thing since i drove it home, insurance gets swapped over tomorrow when my 1983 TransAm goes into the body shop to get painted (for free! love it when old guys hit me)
I'm totally excited!
Might not post much after that tho, be too busy racking some km's up
i plan to detail it on wens when its my turn to use the garage at my house. detail in/out, condition leather, wax it, clean everything.
funny fact=found a full budwiser and a pack of smokes under the passenger seat
but, unfortunately, no tray thinger.

just some questions i've got for anyone that can help...

I dont have remote door unlock, but power locks...
i have a security light, and a security button (i think?) under the steering wheel, tried pressing it, holding it for 3, 5, 6, and 10 seconds. nothing seems to happen.
did these come with a full security system stock?

would it be worth it to do a engine flush, oil/oil filter change, and run synthetic?
doesn't burn a drop of oil or any smoke at all out the back.

the stock rims at 16" rims, theres not enough room for 17" in the stock wheel wells is there? if not, what would you guys recommend for a new set of tires if i go with another set of 16" rims?
