Alcyone?

Hi. I am an SVX newbie so don't laugh when I ask this question. I don't know much about the history of the car. I notice that some people list their SVX"s as "Alcyone". Do they all say that on the taillight panel or that a special version? Mine also says that. Is there a web site that I can look at to read about the history of the car. Thanks.
Paul.

kidding, but go a head and send it if you want to swap.
it is the Japan version of the car. many US guys swap the panel in the tail lights to keep people guessing "what the heck is it!"

I'm sure there must be a history page made up, someone else will probably know where it is. anyway, welcome to the network

Here are the basics...

Subaru is named after the cluster of stars "Pleades" (sp?) Alcyone is the brightest star of the cluster. In some countries it is a name they started using for their "Flagship" cars starting in about 1985 when they introduced the XT, it then continued with the XT-Turbo, XT6 and SVX. It hasn't been used since then.

Rumor has it that at one point it was going to be their high end brand, like Honda has Acura, Toyota has Lexus... But that never happened...

He was teasing. Basicly I wouldn't doubt that he wants one cause people have to import them from Japan or wait for people to bring them back on trips to Japan. I like that mine says Subaru but I would like the Alcyone hood emblem for mine. It's just one of those things some people do to set their cars a little different from everyone else's.
You wanted history though so here you go. Wikipedia has one of the best acumulations of knowlege on our cars. http://wikicars.org/en/Subaru_Alcyone_SVX Good luck with your "Alcyone".

Now mine don't have the horns. So something was changed. The back panels says Alcyone but I do not have the horns. Any other way to tell if it a true Alcyone?

someone bought a JDM light panel and put it on your car.

unless it is a right-hand drive import from Japan (which i highly doubt), you have a regular USDM SVX, with a JDM part.

Alcyone=SVX, SVX=Alcyone. It was just a different name used for a different country. A better one IMHO sounds a hell of alot classier.

Is it possible that the hood was changed that is why it does not have the "horn" emblem? There must be some other way to tell if it is an Alcyone or not. Maybe by vin# or some other # on the car?

+1
I honestly believe that the SVX MAY have sold better if it had been brought over with the full Alcyone treatment. Alcyone has a MUCH better ring to it, but alas, most "upmarket" cars don't have names, they have "designations". The relative success of the Legacy, and SVX succeded in moving Subaru upmarket here in the 'States. Rather than create a new brand name, using the SVX as a rallying flag, they took the current name & went "uptown". You don't have to stretch much to see where they were heading...Legacy...Legend....HMMMMMMMM
