Replacing leaky windshield

I have a very strong suspicion that my leak is coming from the top of my windshield. I have a receipt from 1997 indicating that the windshield was replaced.

The current windshield has no flaws except that it leaks.

My problem is that the glass places that I have contacted have all told me that the windshield will most likely break when they remove it.

Any suggestions?
Anyone know any good glass places in the Portland area?

Thanks.

who replaced it? if it was diamond, triumph or safelite, theyll have to cover it under warranty if its as a result of the install. I know that, as I have worked with both companies.

Have you tried cleaning/checking your sunroof drains? I had a similar problem in my 94 LSi.

Hey Mike,
I'm thinking about getting my windshield replaced, but I have to ask the question....If I have the windshield in my possession, what is an average price to install from a company like Safelite?

Thanks

Safelite quoted me $1200 for blue glass, $800 for green. It may vary by region though, so i'm not sure.

Using the garden hose test method; the leak occurs before I reach the sunroof. Unless the sunroof drain and the windshield are connected I don't believe it to be the SR drain. The leaking starts when the hose just above the windshield but definetly not to the sunroof. THe water leaks into the car at the pedals and the passenger foot area.

Any ideas?

Not speaking from experience, but it seems a leak at the top of the windshield would be dripping right into your lap. Could it be that water is making it's way into the footwells through the cowl air intake?

I would check the cowl first.

If the replacement was done when you owned the car, then the warranty covers the install still.

Usually shops charge anywhere from $100 to $200 to install a provided windshield depending on how badly they don't want to do the job. (this is speaking from experience, as many techs wont touch older/collectable/ odd cars such as ours) I don't install by trade, I just answer phones and run the branch office sometimes.

My rear windsheild leaks and was replaced after it was broken, through insurance, by dun dun dun... Safelite.

You have different people down there, but I don't want to use them anymore.
I was actually thinking today of going to Speedy and having them reseat the glass or see what they can do. They replaced the front and did a terrific job for a little over $100.

Have safelite redo it. They are obligated to. I dont really like glass companies in general, diamond just pays better, thats why i work for them. Any company really doesnt matter as much as the installer doing the work

I'm not sure if they'll honor work that was done over 3 years ago. I'd feel like a total tool going in there like "yeah back in 03 you guys installed this glass and did a ****ty job, I'm just now deciding to have you fix it."

:/

People do it ALL of the time. Don't live with something that can be fixed at no cost to you.
