It is currently my "Daily Driver" so I don't plan on any real mods to the engine, maybe a Stage I Chip, but that's probably all.

And it's not a 3.90 Legacy Turbo tranny, it's a low milage 3.90 Impreza tranny.

I don't plan on really flogging it, really just an experiment I wanted to to try....so I think everything will hold up alright...I have spare parts for the rear diff, and rear axles if I do break something....

And if I keep liking it, it'll be at the 15th anniv. meet

Good to hear! I was contemplating going RWD as well, to smoke the tires instead of the trans...

thought about it...yes.....but that takes money

I DO have a 3.90 rear diff, that may get built and installed...but for now I'll just leave the 3.54's in

Oh yeah...it'll be at the Dragon Meet in July also

Does your speedo still work? I thought the front axles drive the R&P gears. What did you use for stubs?

Could you post some pictures from underneath the car? I've been contemplating this sort of setup for my miata project and would love to see some pics.

The front diff still turns, so the speedo still works....

for stubs, I just dissasembled a couple old axles I had laying around and used the outer section to bolt through the hub, to hold the bearings together.

I don't have any pics from under the car...but it's looks the same, other than the lack of front axles....if I have any reason to get under it, I'll try to snap some pics...

I seem to recall seeing a red SVX in some random youtube video doing a rwd burnout. Must admit, it looked sweet. Anyone else know what video I'm thinking of?

Well....it's been that way for a year and a half now....still doing fine...although I really don't drive it much....if it's nice I'm riding one of my motorcycles, and if it's nasty, I drive the Brat....probably haven't put 6,000 on it since I installed the 5-speed...

I happened to have a 5-speed laying around with a siezed center diff, so it cost me nothing extra to make it rear wheel drive, other than the typical 5-speed swap costs....

Hey Huck, here's something to think about.
My off road Hatch is rear wheel drive because of the divorced t-case, right?
Remember last year when the front diff went bye-bye?
The front diff isnt designed to run in rwd, the torque applied to the gears is unequal. It may not be a problem now, but it wont run forever like that.
I'm sure it helps to have a newer type tranny, but the engineering is still the same as the old on the front diff.
Just my .02

I suppose it could cause problems, but on the newer style tranny, with the center diff locked, it send the power out to the front and rear, the front is still working, but has no resistence due to not having axles to transfer the power to the wheels, so all the HP is used through the rear output on the tranny.
This does mean that the rear diff will be under a lot more load, and torque than it was ment for.....but Nissan used these rear diffs in some of their Vehicles, which were run RWD, so I think that the rear diff will hold up OK.....plus the tires break loose keeping it from being in to much of a bind

But either way...it's fun while as long as it lasts

Hey Huck, I just got my solver back on the road the other day.... Something you might find interesting...

As you may know it has a 6mt in it, which w/ the DCCD controller off make is essentially RWD. Now the r180 has held up just fine to the SC EG33 but the driveshaft is another story... The CV joint on my 1992 driveshaft has seen better days... The joint itself is loose sloppy and gives a lot of slack to the rear wheels... If you are using a CV style driveshaft, you may want to keep a close eye on it

Tom

how is that? isn't the 6MT without any controler a 60/40 split?
