Peculiar electrical gremlin.

I need a guru. I know my way with wiring, but this may take a genius.


The problem, at the moment, is interior lighting.

All of my interior lights, dome, spot, gauge, ashtray, gear selector, cigarette lighter are intermitantly working, I'll do my best to describe the problem.


When the door is open EVERYTHING shuts off, when the door is closed, everything comes back on.

Except.

Door closed, drivers spot switch on (by the sunroof controls) everything off.
Door closed, room switch on (same location) everything off.
Door closed, door switch on (same location) everything off.
Door closed, passenger side spot switch on, everything off.

once the door is shut, and all of these switches are off, I get interior lights.

Unless.

I hit a bump, everything off, until a hit another bump, everything on.
after the first bump -off- and the second bump, -on- everything is just intermittant, lights will go out for ten minutes, flicker, off again, on for a few minutes...


You get the idea.

more hell.

I just removed the light bulbs from the two spots and the dome.

now nothing happens when I hit room or either of the spots. lights stay on. unless the door is open, that is.

but!

if I hit room, then door. all the lights go out, if I deselect either. lights come back on.


What kind of fresh hell is this?

I would assume a hot line is grounding out somewhere, but would that not blow the fuse?

Just a middle of the night random thought, but wouldn't all of these things tie into the Door Light Timer?? It's been a while since I looked over the schematics, but I think they all tie in there???

I believe you are correct about all of those systems tying into the Time Control Module. The module itself is located in the center console. I suppose it could be as simple as a loose harness... or at worst, the module is faulty.

Its been a while since I poked around under the center console, but it looks like this module should have five wires going into it.

If you look at Page #11, it outlines the Interior Lighting System. Unless I am reading it wrong, the schematic seems to support Hocrest's suggestion.

I would start with diagnosing that module... good luck!

Sorry folks, but I've been unable to find the timer, all I can find is the shift lock unit. Anyone know precisely where the timer is?
