15,000 mile service

as a general rule, i don't believe in 15,000 mile service (or 30,000 miles service for that matter) being done to a car. however, since my svx is 10 years old, i plan on having it done next week. should i consider something more comprehensive like a 30k or 60k service? please post your thoughts. thanks.

Oh, you can so bite my...

I just did the 30k mile service on my wife's Outback. That would probably be a good place to start, and was just a bunch of fluid changes.

1. Oil change.
2. Coolant change.
3. Brake fluid change.
4. Tire rotation.

That was really it.

After 10 years it might not be a bad idea to do all of the belts, regardless of mileage. Definitely all of the fluids.

WOw 15K?? seriously??

WEll treat it as a 60K service IMO.....10 years old can ruin seals and things deteriorate...I'd do the water pump and belts, etc.

I agree with everyone on the belts, hoses and fluids. In addition, I believe the prevailing wisdom is that a good tire's life span is well under ten years, regardless of wear; worth considering if yours are original.

so much hostility here, geez! i kinda thought it was time to replace anything rubber or liquid but wanted to make sure it wasn't overkill. i really wasn't trying to rub my super-ultra-low-mileage svx in anyone's face.

the tires were original when i bought it in feb 2003 with 8,024 miles. when the armor-all put on by the dealership wore off, there were visible cracks in the sidewalls of all tires. i transfered them to my then daily driver (a 92 claret) and tossed them at the end of that summer with not much more than 20k miles on them. since that time, the 97's been sporting blizzak ws-50s i bought mounted on oem wheels from ebay.

well the svx went into the dealership today. i opted for the 30k mile service and its gonna set me back $570! at least they provided me with a free loaner car: a 2007 outback 2.5i wagon w/ coinicidentally 570 miles. the heated seats were sure nice this morning with an outside temperature in the upper 30s. i wish they would have supplied me with a cable to test out the stereos aux-in jack. maybe they won't finish my car today and i can keep the loaner overnight and purchase my own cable.

as soon as i can unload the jeep/camper and the elantra gls, i will gladly put it into daily driver service. my desire to maintain and insure a car i hardly ever drive is over. besides, the market just sees it as an ugly 10yo subaru.

I still think you should store it and get another SVX for a daily driver.
