Calling all Subaru SVX experts

Hello everyone. I think I am probobly one of the youngest, and definetly newest, members to this network. I have just recently been thinking about trying to get a SVX, yet it has been difficult to locate one. I would just like to ask everyone if they can give me some advice on which year they think is best, and on what is most affordable. Also what defects (if any) does the SVX line have? I live near Sacramento in California and I can spend up to around 3500 but no more than that. I would also like to know what the basic differences are between the years. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to say anything you want to help a poor, young American boy who wants a new toy.

2 of the best resources are the how-to lockers here and the SVXipedia on http://svx-iw.com

There exists an article "What to look for in a new SVX".

Welcome to the site!

It helps to know what you are looking for in a vehicle. Why do you want an SVX?

Hey welcome.

You might want to get a little extra cash ready for when you purchase your new SVX. There is usually a few things wrong, be careful that nothing is major. The SVX is a great car but it get price to fix.

I am not trying to discourage you, just preparing you for the inevitable. The 92's and some 93's are very prone to transmission failures. There are some inexpensive preventive measures that you can take and one is free, Don't drive her like a tuner car. This can kill a tranny quick. Respect the SVX and she will take care of you.

Check this one out for sale link to SVX 4 sale.

It is a must sell to fund kids car WHY

Good luck

Steve

Thanks you guys, I think subconsciously I want a car that has nice looks, which I see in the SVX. Not only that but the price for them aren't too bad (except some seem outrageous), and Subaru have been known to make good quality cars, plus the AWD is great for where I live becuase of snow. Overall it is deffinetly an upgrade from my 1991 Loyale Wagon, I might be a little ignorant, but for me, it's deffinetly worth my money. All I have found are 1992's though, and I wouldn't mind having to replace some parts, but I would rather aviod it. Thanks for the link too, I was just looking at it and discussing with my dad if we could afford it, maybe my next post will be a more exciting one. Thanks to everyone.

1994 on would be the best choice for best tranny, but you will have to spend more than you have listed. One thing to consider is that you may need to spend more on a cleaner, lower mileage car, but it will save you money in the long run. One that needs too much work will cost more in repairs than it is worth. Don't fall in love with the first one that comes along unless it is a good one. Good luck on your purchase.

is this your first car? remember that the SVX REQUIRES premium fuel. While I would not recomend it for a first car, If you feel that you can properly maintain and afford the inevitable repairs, go for it. Not trying to scare you, but remember, nothing about the SVX is cheap

the maintenance of a 30,000 car doesn't go away when the price drops to 3,500....

Ya that is a big one. Minimum of 91 or 92 octane. Tank is small, have not cost me over 40.00 for 13 gallons, yet

THAT right there, is the hardest part. I should know, it happened twice.

At least I'll be working at a Subie dealership garage soon.... that ought to help with the lists of repairs I need done on both cars. If you want an idea what kind of repairs and costs await you, from the mundane to the exotic, check out this thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32521

For me to be serious about getting an SVX how much money should i have if anything that sometimes goes wrong does go wrong, lets say i try to get a 94. Or what would be your recomondation as what i should look for that is most affordable. thanks.

hey, i found this one on ebay in california, do you think it would be totally neccesary to have to test drive one before i bought it, i think i should but its a little far from where i live. Yet i have bad feelings because this is one hell of a price for what he said it about it.

Only if you want a good one!

And you might just want a mechanic with svx knowledge (which is rare as well) to check out the car.

Car looks clean though. Also it doesnt have a set price could sky rocket at the last minute on ebay you never know. only 143 miles lol

You could always run carfax on it.
